Asalam o alaikum.. today in corporate culture and CA firms culture (theres a little difference) there is great emphasis on 'gender equality', and this was focused to remove hinderances in WOMEN'S way to working in these cultures.
But hasnt this gone realy tooooo far???? It has sort of become 'reverse discrimination' that is against 'Male' gender!!!
Focusing on our firms' culture,,(true there aint many ladies, but that's not 'our' fault, its probably cause ICAP is a little too tough) the females get lots of 'previliges' or rather 'rights' for instance most of 'em dont get to go to 'choona' clients (only unless they wanna go their themselves for better prep.) 2nd they rarely get to sit in the office after 6 in the evening (that is the most), now this gives 'em the extra amount of time (which u can understand is so much precious when u literally have to beg for those 50 days of leaves) plus they never seem to get the scolding (which is a very light word) of their seniors......
I mean I'm not saying to reverse the situation or change the situation, cuz I know it wont be done, but the fact is nobody (even ourselves) dont recognize this fact that we are at a disadvantage to our female colleagues..... so my main purpose to bring to this 'discussion' was to get us to recognize that 'they' have an unfair advantage.... and if u wanna contribute, well that's what this forum is for
Phew...!!!! painfull tragic story... I sympathize and agree with you to some extent but my dear what about other conventional educational fields? There males have got all the liberties they can choose but still girls always top most of the positions??? Look at all of our universities, colleges, schools... in all subjects? What discrimination is there?

In my opinion, both Paki's and TheOne's arguements are generally correct. But i also think that if one specifically looks at the situation in our profession, its more to do with the girls themselves and the social background they come from rather than the management of these firms.

I did my articles from one of the big four firms, and during my articleship days, i came to work with excellent female collegues some of whom were literally as they say... "one of the guys", ie they always sat late with the team, went to choona clients without any 'nakhras', and even came on saturdays and sundays. At the same time, there were girls who did like to avail all the "privilages" offered to them.

Now, i am all for giving our women collegues special consideration by management, since we DO live in an islamic society with eastern values. But i have also come across several cases where the management DID go quite overboard in making sure that the "privilages" were availed by our female collegues, and at the same time making it harder for us guys. And this is what i am against.

Totally agreed. In my view and observation, the fairer gender is way better academically, have more power of concentration than men, are better at solving logical problems and can take much more stress than us men.

Further I must add that I know and you must also be knowing many of male guys who were quite at "ease" in life but they couldn't pass even intermediate... and there were guys who were from quite lower and middle class but with everlasting "sustainable" capacity and growth. I must say here that Poor students join this profession because they can't find jobs other way... but borne yuppies join this profession for the sake of the glamour and status. So far as girls are concerned, majority belongs to upper class. It doesn't make any difference to them whether qualify or not. However we must accept the fact once and for all that "Sinf-e-Nazuk" is superior in performance.

hmm, so once again the blame goes to 'Islam' (Allah save my religion),, well I didnt say to stop the previlige, I just said 'nobody recognizes the fact.

academically, they are better, no doubt (but perhaps we should lift the previliges and then see the response) (I didnt qualify my agreement here)
better in solving logical problems (this one's hard to believe) I think they r good at doing the routine work
They are not better concentrators, just that they dont get nautious and monotony never seems to affect them (probably that's why they r better at routine work)
Other than this I agree with u to some extent or more.

I agree with u there @ theone,,, just that last sentence, I would like replacing 'superior' with 'compatible' <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> (this is my view)

Ground Reality about "Gender Equality"
Executive Director of UNICEF says girls in South Asia “cannot afford to wait”
Islamabad/New York, Wednesday, 21 May – UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy today arrived in Pakistan, carrying a strong message that until girls’ education becomes an urgent priority in South Asia, the region’s economic and social development will be hindered.
Bellamy is in Pakistan for a three-day visit to concentrate attention on education in the region, as part of a global campaign to scale up efforts to achieve the Education for All (EFA) goals.
Today she launched a national initiative to accelerate progress for girls’ education in Pakistan. Speaking at the launch, Bellamy noted that 7 million Pakistani girls of school-going-age are not in school.
“Each one of these girls is an asset to her country,” Bellamy said. “But their prospects are dwindling by the day. Every day spent outside of a school is a tremendous loss not only for the girl but for the future of her country.”
Bellamy said she will urge the South Asian Ministers to take immediate action to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of gender parity in primary and secondary schools by 2005. She pointed to the daunting statistics that make this a priority South Asia is home to 43 million out-of-school children. Over half of these children are girls.

Hi Paki and TheOne

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>hmm, so once again the blame goes to 'Islam' (Allah save my religion<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

nope... i aint bringing in religion as some ppl like to do when they can't think of anything to say. What i was trying to emphasise was that islam has given womenfolk an exalted status and has given some special privilages to womenfolk. Our eastern culture, inspite of its cons (honor killings, MMA, taliban), does also require that women be allowed certain privilages, especially in public places.

But then, nobody should abuse the privilages being granted to them as some do.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana" id=quote>quote<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>academically, they are better, no doubt (but perhaps we should lift the previliges and then see the response)<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Lol ... why should we take away their privilages? they would still beat us... and then phir ye privliages waala 'bahaana' bhi nahin hoga to save face! <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> By the way, who are we to 'give' or 'take away' these so-called privilages. Sounds like we are talking about cattle or something.

Hi GB,
Factually speaking we don't talk about any so-called privileges to females when we are at home... we only talk about those when we face some competition or level-playing field out there. See what I referred above about ground reality about girls edu. in whole SE Asia?? When we talk about privileges why don't we see the women working in the field? Why don't we remember Nawabpur Tragedy?? and of course, as referred by you.. those honour-killings etc. etc.?? Look at the recent public poll going on Geo TV that "Why shouldn't the ads. showing female faces be removed from public places & roads?? Is this all food left for our thoughts??

Totally agreed TO!

I find it sickening to see news items about MMA ppl in NWFP taking it upon themselves to 'cleanse' the soicety of all moral ails by putting black paint on ad hoardings featuring women and threatening ppl in the advertisement industry with serious consequences if they ever repeat the same 'mistake' again.

Don't these ppl have any other thing to do other than female-bashing. This country has other huge problems like corruption, sectarian and ethnic hatred, but apparently, these are non-issues for these ***holes!

Actually "sectarian and ethnic hatred" is what keeps their (MMA) buisness going....how can they speak against it

Imagine where would these guys be if hatred for other sects was missing from our society.

Thanks Almight Allah that he already clarified that he has not children or relationship with anybody whatsoever. If there was no such divine clarification... then probably most of Allah's nearest and dearest relatives could be found herein Pakistan. Still, perhaps they're not declaring their false "relationing" feelings, but aren't they expressing it through their behabiour?
They are "Cults"...I call them "Religious-Zombies".

well, I didnt know the heat would turn against MMA, mula folks,, just imagine Moulana diesel our Prime Minister!!!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
so u guys seem to be all in favor of whatever 'extra' is being given to our women colleagues.... and 'theone' pointed out that no body shows his concern for the adverse conditions that ladies have to face in the rural areas, I think the proper response to such a problem is to try and improve the conditions in the rural areas then to give extra privilages to the urban ladies, who already r enjoying a nice enough life, should I say. (and doesnt that sound like they r benefiting from the miseries of those poor ladies???) I mean u guys have said so much 'bout giving extra to the ladies in the city, but if u see the 'maids' (masee people) who work at our houses, u know the work environment they work in, and almost all r from rural areas or poor income group, why not give privilages to them (like maternity leave etc)????
further if u notice theres an increased encouragement from companies to employ ladies (and most of it is under pressure from the foreign controlling groups), isnt it suggestive they are trying to change our society??? cause rigt now I think if any class of the society is hit by unemployment that is the male folks (and they can even divert more easily to crimes).. today its a qualification to be a women (as far as seeking a job is concerned) I mean why wouldnt companies keep a 'male receptionist'?? or secretary for that purpose???
