A. UK Accounting and Auditing Bodies

Association of Accounting Technicians - Professional membership organisation providing recognised training and continuing professional development for accounting technicians. Supported by CIPFA, ICAEW, CIMA and ICAS.

Association of British Independent Accounting Firms (ABIAF) - national network of independent accounting firms with stong local connections. Sharing a common ethos they work together to provide services to clients.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) - international accountancy body for the chartered accountants providing advice and accountancy courses to students as well as accountancy regulations and tax accountant advice to small businesses.

Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants (AISMA) - network of 63 firms of specialists accountants in the UK all involved in accountancy work for doctors.

Audit and Assurance Faculty (ICAEW) - the Audit and Assurance Faculty is a key authority in the UK on external audit and takes a leading role in internal audit.

British Accounting Association (BAA) - UK organisation bringing together those interested in teaching and research in accounting and finance.

British Accreditation Bureau including the Select Assure Scheme - BAB aims to provide accreditation of consultants. The ICAEW and BAB have announced a fast track accreditation scheme for Institute members for the Select Assure Scheme. Details of this are on the BAB site, select the Web Page Structure option.

British Association of Hospitality Accountants (BAHA) - official website of the body formed in 1969 for professionals involved in financial management and control within the hotel industry. Site includes details of guidance notes and other publications produced by BAHA.

Business Application Software Developers Association (BASDA) - previously known as the Business and Accounting Developers
Association, the BASDA represents over 350 leading applications software developers from around the globe.

Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) - represents Accountants in Business such as financial managers and accountants who work in industry, commerce, not-for-profit and public sector organisations.

Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) - is the accountancy body for the public services providing education and training in accountancy and financial management.

Competitiveness Joint Committee (CJC) - Sponsored by CIPFA, the CJC is an organisation comprising representatives from all local authorities' associations in the UK and over 40 officers' organisations. Covers all aspects of Best Value and competition in local authorities.

Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB) - official website of the umbrella organisation representing the six major accountancy bodies in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Site includes an explanation of the organisation's core objectives and role in promoting CCAB qualified accountants from the 6 bodies that make up the CCAB. The site also includes an archive of press releases, and reports they have issued (in PDF format). Also includes a listing of CCAB groups in Europe.

Faculty of Actuaries - one of the professional bodies making up The Actuarial Profession in the UK, the other being the Institute of Actuaries that this website is shared with. Site provides details of the profession including issues, standards, areas of practice, the online "Manual of Actuarial Practice", education, training and CPD information as well as a Resources Centre with online publications, reports, working papers and much more.

Guernsey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants - ICAEW area society providing a forum for and working to promote the interests and concerns of members working in Guernsey.

Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales - the largest professional accountancy body in Europe, with over 124,000 members.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland - professional body for Chartered Accountants in Scotland.

Institute of Actuaries - one of the professional bodies making up The Actuarial Profession in the UK, the other being the Faculty of Actuaries that this website is shared with. Site provides details of the profession including issues, standards, areas of practice, the online "Manual of Actuarial Practice", education, training and CPD information as well as a Resources Centre with online publications, reports, working papers and much more.

Institute of Certified Book-keepers - with 70, 000 members in the UK and abroad the Institute of Certified Book-keepers promotes the profession of book-keeping through relevant qualifications reflecting the role of the book-keeper in commerce and industry.

Institute of Cost & Executive Accountants - professional body promoting "the study and adoption of scientific methods in industrial and commercial enterprise, local government, public service and internal audit streams".

Institute of Financial Accountants - body representing and providing qualifications for non-chartered accountants wishing to work in financial management.

Institute of Internal Auditors UK - recognised authority on all internal audit issues in the UK and Ireland. The IIA represents, promotes and develops the practice of internal auditing. Website includes technical guidance and advice as well as information about internal auditing and resources for members.

London Society of Chartered Accountants - with a membership of over 37, 000 this is the largest of the 22 district societies of the ICAEW representing a third of all Chartered Accountants.

National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants - organisation representing specialist dental accountants. NASDA membership includes accountants and lawyers with an in-depth knowledge of the dental profession. The Association works to promote and develop accountancy services to the dental profession and further knowledge of specialist dental accountancy matters.

Network of Independent Forensic Accountants - a network of independent independent Chartered Accountancy practices created to provide expert witnesses (accredited by the Law Society) for cases involving litigation in areas of the law such as matrimonial, family, commercial, criminal, insurance, personal injury and clinical and professional negligence.

Oil Industry Accounting Committee - service for the oil industry providing specialist news plus downloadable copies of current exposure drafts, SORP's and guidance
Panel on Audit Effectiveness - contains the final report and recommendations and Public Hearings Transcripts of the (USA) Panel on audit effectiveness published in September 2000 follwoing the exposure draft that was issued in June 2000. Available in one download file or section by section.

The Production Guild of Great Britain - body formed by the merger of the Guild of Film Production Accountants and Financial Administrators (GFPA) and The Guild of Film Production Executives (GFPE) in 1999.
Society of Professional Accountants - new name for the 'Small Practitioners association', founded in 1996. An independent association of over 1500 chartered accountants from the ICAEW working in smaller practices. Site includes a browse function to find members, by county or town.

Society of Turnaround Professionals (STP) - professional body established in 2000 with support from the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3). Recruits, monitors and regulates experienced turnaround practitioners who can advise, initiate and implement plans for the successful recovery of businesses in various stages of decline for the benefit of the national economy and stakeholders.

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) - official homepage of the professional body for trust and estate profession worldwide, which includes members from the accounting sector as well as legal, corporate trust, banking, insurance and other related professions. Site includes information about the history and structure of STEP, along with a selection of publications that can be downloaded free.

UK 200 Group - the UK 200 Group is a mutual association for firms of Chartered Accountants, with a website that contains information on the group as well as sections on trade groups and specialist panels. In addition to the public site, the UK200 group also maintains a members only area.

Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales - Livery Company for chartered accountants with an associated charitable trust. Fosters the accountancy profession in a number of ways including provision of social and professional events for ICAEW members, promotiion of standards, creation and discribution of funds for charitable purposes and, like the ICAEW, monitoring policy developments relating to the profession. The Company has the special responsibility of supporting the Mayoralty and the City.
