Wa aliakum asalam Asif,

Welcome on board, hope you enjoy the forum. We'll all be glad to fill you in with all about Pakistan. I hope the ''accounting topics'' don't bore you.

I grew up with a number of Indian boys and girls,.. some of my very good friends are Indians......

We hope to learn more about India ourselves- especially Madras/Chennai. So what University do you attend ?

quote
ASA Pracs bhai,

newayz one thing i've always wanted to know is whether sale or consumption of alcohol in pak is legal! if not is it available in the black market? and wat happens those caught on the wrong side of the law??
i was under the misconception that pak was a 100% muslim country.. so i assumed that alcohol was illegal there; however i was surprised about 6-7 yrs back when shoaib akhtar and some of the youngsters were accused of getting into a drunken brawl with locals while touring South Africa.. was left wondering how some ppl got into this habit if it they'd never come across it in their country??
only recently when i came now danish kaneria and yousuf youhana were non-muslims i realised pak isnt totally a muslim country and hence i know have my doubts whether alcohol is actually sold there?
would love to hear the actualy scenario from u or anybody else who can throw some light on this issue for him..

YES DEAR, Ofcourse pakistan is Muslim country . And ur quiries about Alcohol that whether it is allowed in pak or not.? Answer is that Alcoholic drinks are not allowed here and is purely illegal to sale or drink in an open evironment. I mean to say that WINE( Alcoholic bewerage)is available in black market mostly, but ppl may not overcome to this situation due to BRIBES (bhatta),CORRUPTIONS,BUREAUCRATES & some WHITE COLORS.But sale or drinking of Alcohol is illegal activity in pakistan.

Ofcourse its legal in India, Whapa! You should've known it since i know u love to see your 'favorite' movie star Sunjay Dutt in all his drunken glory beat up on a 100 bad guys?

Hi Asif
You mentioned that u were from Chennai. I always wondered whats with this changing of city names in India ... first Bombay to Mumbai, then Calcutta to Kolkata and now Madras to Chennai?

I kind of like the old names and still prefer to use them instead of the new ones, which umm... please dont mind but sound a bit hideous.

ASA guybrush,
The answer to ur query is kinda complicated but i'll try to make it simple for u.. to begin with india is a land of diversities-- as in we have over 25 states with each of them having their own language and culture, unlike in Pakistan where urdu's spoken almost everywhere.. for example.. lets consider the 4 states which constitute the southern most part of the indian peninsula

1. Tamil Nadu (Chennai) - Tamil
2. Kerala (Trivandrum) - Malayalam
3. Andhra Pradesh (Hyderabad) - Telugu, Urdu
4. Karnataka (Bangalore) - Kannada
and so on...

it's believed that bombay, calcutta and madras were names given to these cities during the british colonial era..
in the present scenario ppl of all these states are trying to establish an identity of their own and one way to do so is to revert back to ur origins(roots!)..
frankly whether it's chennai or madras it doesnt make a difference to me but for hard core tamilians it's unimaginable to carry forward the british legacy.. i cant understand the extent to which ppl can go to have their voice heard!!
it all started with bombay and soon madras and calcutta followed.. guess wat it's likely that bangalore may soon follow.. dont blame me if the reasoning sounds silly but that's the way it is!!
hope i've answered the query..
cheers,
asif

You can if u think u can!

ASA asif bhai,
well guess someone already answered ur query but alcohol's very much legal here.. infact it's one of the biggest sources of revenue for the government... however there are lotsa rules governing sale and cosumption of alcohol like liquor shops shudnt be anywhere close to places of worship, educational institution, hospitals etc.. effective enforcement of these laws rests with the respective state govt and u see these being flouted every now and then..
Though almost all muslims try to stay clear of alcohol, it pains us wen some of the muslims are addicted to the havit too..
hoped i've answered ur query..
cheers..
asif

YAARE, As u know that pakistan is a developed country and its educational system is not so advance, as technology is being changed rapidly but the improving ratio of educational system is not balanced by these factors. Therefore the progress of study from nursery to matriculation is roughly slow. However if u like to know abt subjects, similary familiar with the age & mind level of children like general knowledge, basic english, islamiat (basic facts),urdu at appropriate level. If u interested to know abt. Matricualtion level there are certain subjects which is not so easy (according to the appropriate level of students) like mathematics, physics, chemistry, english, and so on (this is referred to science students).
Specialization starts after getting Bachelor degree from special institutes & universities. Private institutes, universities & professional bodies are wel enough and are improving as compare to GOVT. universities.

hi asif.. i'm still not very clear bout the way the pakistani education system works.. newayz do boys and girls go to the same schools there or are there separate schools for boys and girls.. newayz looks like ur the only one interested in this topic cuz it's been almost a week since i started this topic and so far only u've been visitin it regularly.. find it funny that something so scandalous as "pornstars" gets such a gud response while hardly anybody replies to this topic..
newayz keep it going man,
cheers,
