HELP:Scope Of ACCA In The US - Girl_here - 05-21-2006

Hi Everyone!hope you all are doing good..my question is that is ACCA recognized in America or not as it's originally a UK based qualification..Can an ACCA(PAK) living in America earn fine there?
looking forward toward your participations..

ACCA does have a US chapter, but not very well spread and with not so many members as I remember correctly. The US market is growing and Big4 firms are hiring from across the world. I presently know of Pakistani CAs and ACCAs who are now working in the US, ofcourse along with Indian, Philipino accountants.. but the main reasons for that are

-qualfied accountant
-relevant Big4 experience
-a shortage of accountants in the US

ACCA does not have a market as such in the US,.. and for non US CPA accountants it can be an uphill task to grow into the market and the firms that hire you do say that you have to pass the CPA exam in a year's time (for progression etc.)

I am not sure if you are already an ACCA or halfway through,. but I would encourage you to get some relevant experience by working for an accountancy firm and possibly passing ACCA, that could get you a job in the US to start with,.. but keep in mind that for a fruitful career in accountancy in the US, you will then have to ultimately pass the CPA exam.

Thank you so much Pracs for being helpful..so here i hit another question...how do u compare the scope of ACCA in the US with the one in the UK..obviously a great difference but still wanna have an answer

The scope for ACCA here in the UK is quite bright,. (given the right experience), there is very little discrimination when it comes to jobs, ACCA has the same level of rights (ie audit of companies) as a CA,.. and the recent CCAB route by ICAEW simply goes to show that ICAEW is now actually trying to compete.

You just need to google for accounting jobs in the UK to find out what the worth of ACCA is in the UK, ofcourse most jobs in the UK require residency or 'work permit'

yes pracs i also observe the job prospects of acca in uk by often visiting/searching the google.
But the big barrrier ( as stated by u) 'WORK PERMIT'

By the way what do u think, if a qualified acca having a experience of 4-5 years , will b it is easy for him to get a work permitt, or will b a company help him in this regard
