Cloud Accounting/Bookkeeping?? - ndeluca - 07-03-2010

Have any of you heard the term "cloud computing" or any derivative of that lately? Do you think that this service is beneficial to small business owners? If you need an example I believe one company that does it is www.virtualaccountingonline.com and another is www.peakaccounting.com If these links do not work then just google them to get an idea of what they are about. Seems like it is appearing on the news more and more everyday.

Yes,you are right, cloud computing seems en vogue nowadays.Cyberprint of 'The News' mentions it alot.Even Microsoft has moved into this with the latest MSOffice version. It sort of became popular with the recession because companies can no longer afford buying each and every piece of hardware and getting the latest expensive software.According to my understanding, the 'cloud' has got all the stuff you need on huge servers so you can rent the software you want instead of buying so it's cheaper and that's why companies are moving into it.Plus, the ease of accessing your documents from anywhere(Google Docs and the new MSOffice etc)is proving popular but don't know if security-wise it's that good. The links work and small companies would probably benefit from the expertise of a team of professionals but I don't know how cost-effective it is.

Hallo this could be in theme, also interesting for accounting in Dubai. And on Wiki found follow regarding Cloud Computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices on demand, like the electricity grid.
Cloud computing is a paradigm shift following the shift from mainframe to client–server in the early 1980s. Details are abstracted from the users, who no longer have need for expertise in, or control over, the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them.[1] Cloud computing describes a new supplement, consumption, and delivery model for IT services based on the Internet, and it typically involves over-the-Internet provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources. It is a byproduct and consequence of the ease-of-access to remote computing sites provided by the Internet.
