I have a friend who is just about to complete his articleship. Now he is very confused about his future and keeps bugging me whether he should stay in practice or got find a job inthe industry.

What do u suggest? For informaation purposes, he has qualified during his articleship with a reputed, top firm in Pakistan.

Tell your friend to look for a job in the industry, Guybrush.

The firms in Pakistan are going through a phase of mergers and consolidation of resources. In these sort of conditions, lower and middle managment don't stand a chance of climbing the corporate ladder.

There is no future for professionals in practice, atleast in the near-future. As far as long-term situation goes... i cant say.

Depends on what your friend is looking for.. I mean what his priorities are - money or career ?

Industry gives instant cash.. as compared to pracrice.. In Pakistan one must realise there are no good opportunities in practice. People usually stick on and move to the industry given a good opportunity.

You need to give in more time to grow in practice. Partnerships are but sour grapes i guess......

I feel parcs is right. It depends upon the person what he wants to do. One thing however has to be understood... it is not that there is no future in practice or more money in corporate jobs, the only thing is how one carries himself. If the person is clever enough to operate and make out his way then it will be no problem where he wants to end up.
My advice is ... Listen to your heart and then compare it with the thoughts of your mind.
Emmad.

I have been in practice long before i qualify. You learn a lot in the practice. But cash will find it hard to come your way, in early years. In industry ready cash is there, but learning is restricted to a single job. I think out of the most of the persons in practice is there because they could not find a suitable job to meet their requirement.

Decision is yours.

Good Luck

Hehehe... "Learning" wont put food in your and your family's tummy, Usman. When u will reach our age, u will realize that learning loses its importance and making bucks comes to the fore as the driving factor.

The problem is that there is no future for a professional in most CA firms here in Pakistan. The 'Seths' at the helm of affairs in these firms create a glass ceiling for newcomers, so the the only way a young person can go higher in the firm heirarchy is to boot-lick his way up the ladder... instead of going up thru effort and hard work.

No wonder that professionals here in Pakistan consider working in practice as a short-term plan and look forward to getting a job in the industry.
