IPPs can file sales tax returns up to 25th of every month

ISLAMABAD (January 30 2004): Fulfilling a major demand of independent power producers (IPPs), the government has extended date of filing of monthly sales tax returns by the independent power producers (IPPs).

Now, the IPPs could file returns up to 25th of every month instead of 15th. In this regard, the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has notified the decision through an SRO (I)/2004 here on Thursday.

Official sources told Business Recorder that a number of independent power producers have made presentations to the CBR that they were facing difficulty in filing monthly sales tax returns by 15th of the month. Keeping in view the difficulties faced by the IPPs, the CBR has permitted them to file returns up to 25th of every month.

The notification read, “The government has notified the 25th day of the month following the month (tax period) to which the sales tax invoice relates, to be the due date for the purpose of payment of sales tax and filing of sales tax return-cum-payment challan by the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) under Section 6 read with Section 26 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990.”
