Six units excluded from Karachi LTU jurisdiction

ISLAMABAD (January 05 2005): The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has excluded six units from the jurisdiction of Large Taxpayer Units (LTU), Karachi. Following are the names and sales tax registration numbers of the excluded units: Hafiz Tannery (sales tax registration number 202420300273); Pakistan Paper Sack Corporation Ltd (1200481901164); Adamjee Enterprises (1101620002746); Adamjee Impex International (1100119015946); Muhammad Shafi Tanneries (Pvt) Ltd (1200410500282) and Unibro Industries Limited, (sales tax registration number 0201511100855).

These units were not large taxpaying units, but were erroneously registered by the LTU, Karachi. Now, the CBR has amended SRO. 350(I)/2002 through an SRO. 02(I)/2005 issued here on Tuesday.

The LTU, Karachi director general has conveyed to the tax authorities that certain units presently falling under the jurisdiction of LTU, Karachi did not come under the purview of the LTU. On the recommendation of the LTU director general, the CBR has amended the notification to exclude these units from the jurisdiction of the LTU.

The CBR had already set certain parameters, including annual turnover and amount of tax paid for units falling under the LTU, Karachi.

FOLLOWING IS THE TEXT OF THE NOTIFICATION ISSUED HERE ON TUESDAY: “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of rule 6 of the Registration, Voluntary Registration and De-Registration Rules, 1996, the Central Board of Revenue is pleased to direct that the following amendment shall be made in its Notification No S.R.O.350 (I)/2002, dated the 15th June, 2002, namely:-

“In the aforesaid Notification, in the Table, the entries in column (1) at S. No 96, 179, 251, 253, 306 and 352 and corresponding entries relating thereto in columns (2) and (3) shall be omitted.”
