AICPA Tool Aids CPA Skills

The American Institute of CPAs wants to help public accountants become more proficient in specialty areas such as fraud prevention, detection, and investigation; business and industry finance; audit; government; and personal financial planning and it has a new tool for the job.

With the Competency Self-Assessment Tool, or CAT, CPAs can complete an online self-assessment of personal, leadership, business and functional competencies. A report is generated that shows the CPA’s areas of strengths, areas needing further development, and specific guidance for improvement such as courses to take or books to read.

CAT is free for AICPA members and is available to nonmembers at a cost of $49.00 per year. CPAs interested in CAT can also log on to www.cpa2biz.com.
