Revenue Board rectifies budget error relating to filing of return

ISLAMABAD (February 18 2003) : The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has rectified a budget error relating to the date of filing of return under the central excise laws, says a notification issued on Monday.

In budget 2002-2003, a specific provision was required to be mentioned in the Central Excise Rules, 1944, which was missing in the relevant law. However, this typing mistake caused legal implications for both the central excise duty paying units as well as authorities.

Now, the department has amended excise rules through an SRO 134(I)/2003 to correct the mistake to facilitate all the concerned units.

The notification reads as: In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excises Act, 1944 (I of 1944), the Central Board of Revenue is pleased to direct that in the Central Excise Rules, 1944, the following further amendment shall be made and shall be deemed to have been so made on the 15th June, 2002, namely:

In the aforesaid Rules, in the Appendix-I,

1: against Serial No 4, in column 2, for the words “Monthly return for payment of central excise duty on goods.”, the words “Application for removal of a consignment” shall be substituted; and

(1) Serial No 5 and 6 in column 1 and the entries relating thereto in columns 2,3 and 4 shall be omitted.
