Hi all.

Just wanted to ask how many of you have read Harry Potter books? If u have, then which book is ur favorite, who is ur favourite character AND if u like to tell, the ship u believe in.

Waise i was really surprised to see three replies in my Students topic to this question cos i had the impression k shaid ppl over here wud be totally Accounting/Finance minded and that maybe someone of you may even tell me off for asking such a thing on an accountacny forum... but the response is really different... Thanks to all of you )

As for me. My favorite book is Goblet of fire. My mostttttt favorite character is Ron and i am a GREATTTTTTTTTT believer of Ron/Hermione ship. I also like Prof. Snape and Luna and i've read all the books more than thrice... and Prisoner of Azkaban and GoF both 5 times atleast )

I'm a big fan of the "Harry Potter" series as well. My favourite book is Prisoner of Azkaban and my favourite character is, obviously, Sirius Black. I've seen all three movies as well but I think they're pretty stupid and don't compare to the books at all. I can't wait for "Half-Blood Prince" to come out.
By the way have you read Lord of The Rings because I think that is a wonderful book too.

Even I cant wait for Half-blood prince ... I haven't read Lord of the rings but almost everyone who's read HP here also likes LOTR... I've seen all three films and i agree with u these were stupid... however the director of GoF is saying he's being true to the book. I suppose he'll make it nice cos it my faovrite!

Ron and Hermione are a sure thing. Harry and Ginny....I;m not so sure. Harry doesn't seem to be interested in her even though now she has grown and matured. If anything was to happen between them it would have atleast benn hinted in OotP. Harry and Luna, on the other hand, might be a possibility. Luna was the one who comfrted Harry at the end of book 5, which not even Ron or Hermione could do.
As far as the movies go, I don't think even Spielberg or Jackson can catch the real essence of the books. First of all GoF is so long that staying true to the book will create a 10 hour film (Okay maybe not THAT long but still...). Secondly, you can't hear Harry's thoughts in the movies, which are a BIG part of the books, especially OotP. But I'm gonna watch 'em anyways <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>. Even if just to jump up and down in frustration.

HARRY POTTER too My favourite book is half blood prince because i havent read it yet. others i have read seven to eight time each so they have lost their charm.

About the ships...

Actually there's a difference about the way I see these two ships. I BELIEVE in Ron/Hermione, and i LIKE Harry/Ginny but I also like Harry/Luna cos Luna is also one of my fav. characters... I get the feeling that she might be a know-it-all like Hermione sometimes and thats what makes me feel she'll end up with Harry.

I dont think waise that these books can ever lose their charm for me cos i dont even remember how many times hav i read all books and i like them the same... only that the more i read PoA the more i like it each time.

Hey did u ppl see this news about JKR's cousin Ben???? I think I can only judge after they've shown his teenage pix and maybe i'll still be on JKR's side.... Dunno even if it's true or not !!

im crazy about harry potter !! btw you guys really should check out joan`s site . its got lot of stuff about hbp and old plots etc etc. i was really surprised to find that hermione had a sister in the orignal plot ! woah 2 miss know-it-alls !! maybe the world would have been a better place ... or maybe not Wink

i think everyone will be going to jkr's site cz we haven't had anything else to read other than fanfics..... atleast ppl like me...

Talking about obsession--- I've got about 350 pix of hpmovies in my computer... i've read all these books more than twice ATLEAST and I've got maybe 95% section (literally) of my PC filled with HP books' facts..... articles, jkr's interviews etc.etc.etc................

.......But i dont think thats enough......

I'd love to have a copy of Fantastic Beasts and where to find them and Quidditch thru the ages butttttt unfortunately i haven't seen them over here!!

Anyways.... what I think is that acha hua hermione ki sis ko nahin kiya mention otherwise side-stories wud have started... even jkr says that.... but if she was here that would be fun too )

well ill admit that the whole harry and cho thing was just there to let the readers know that harry had grown up . i think he will be good with ginny.i read some mentioning harry and cho . noooooooo anyone but that lunatic and her fathers magzine !
ron and hermione is certain in the next book . i was really surprised after seeing the prisoner of azkaban (the movie) the way jk mentioned all those lovehate quarels b/w them never suggested anything but the movie put a whole different color in it.

btw hbp will be out in summer 2006 and even thats not confirmed ...

I let u know why our people like it, caz this book is famous in western countries. Whatever western countries like our people like, its a bitter truth. Harry potter doesnât have any link with real life thats why I think its is a useless book.

Few months ago my friend went to Pakistan and he searched the market for ACCA in Pakistan. He told me if anybody get the ACCA qualification from Pakistan he gets the 5000 to 8000 PA and if u are qualified from UK then this salary goes up to 25000 to 30000. Why???????? I donât know?

I think our people like ACCA UK qualification as they like Harry Potter

It may be true for the job market because of the "seth" mentality but you can't possibly assess us normal human beings (no offense intended) on the same grounds. People in Pakistan, and all over the world for that matter, like Harry Potter because it's GOOD.

You say it does not relate to real life? Well, I won't argue with you there. That's why it's called "Fantasy Fiction". In that sense, you would also think that all the television shows, movies, literature, music all are useless. I believe they serve a lot of purposes, they stimulate the mind, nurture imagintion, give birth to creativity and above all, make you think, analyse and by that provide you with a new outlook on life. But if you only want to watch the news and documentaries and only read the news then it's your choice, hey it's a free world.

I think you meant "bitter" truth but anyway, this certainly is not true. There are many thing that people like here in the west that people in Pakistan normally don't, job markets aside as I previously said. For example, people in the west generally like hip hop music, while we seem to be stuck in the boyband era (Noori, EP etc..). People here like baseball, american football, and I beleive in the UK they like soccer. But we Pakistanis will never replace cricket with any of them. Even in literature, people here would read Shakespeare or Jane Austen (author of Pride and Prejudice) just for enjoyment. But I don't think an avearge Pakistani would.

But of course, everybody is entitled to their opinion, I just think that you are not entitled to one untill you actually READ THE BOOK.

Okay.. so Pakistanis like the book only bcoz western ppl like it. But what about the Western ppl? I mean do they also just "pretend" to like that book bcoz.... well whatever reason u gave? I dont think they are too undercomplex to say they like something wen they dont.

And atleast I think even Pakistanis dont just say they like something cos someone else does...

Just read the books with a serious mind and u'll know it;

HP books aren't more fantasized than other such books... like LOTR(please i dont want to have an argument abt LOTR too it's just an expression)

and that, HP books aren't just for kids.
