Now most employers have similar graduate recruitment processes. It doesn't really matter whether you are applying for an accountancy firm, an actuarial firm or consultancy, a bank, or even civil service. They all have very rigorous screening process and if someone want that job they have to go through this rather very painful process.

Well,Big 4 are paying close to 40k,, i know a couple of friends who have made it to Big 4 in the UK and have been offered between 40-43k. ofcourse I speak of ACCA, ACA (Pak) and trained at Big 4 with 2-3 years PQE.

Goodman, when you said she worked for a full day did you mean she was there and was involved in different assessments as part of recruitment? If this is what you meant then I think this is somewhat norm for big players. I remember myself going through the same rigorous recruitment process for my internship in i-banking earlier this year. First, the application process took ages, then the preparation for interview and assessment centres, and finally was gruelled by senior bankers by asking me very technical or trick questions. Anyways, just to let you know, I did get the job at the end and did enjoy it too.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well yeah,, I joined a bank in Dubai a couple of months ago and the induction process involved a three level interview process.. the last day being a whole 8 hour ordeal. The whole process included interviews with the Chief internal auditor, an HR manager, a Psychologist (with the complete psychometric test, a group game plan and ofcourse a technical/scenario based test.
We later also went in for a feed back interview with the psychologist... who gave us a complete personality sketch with strengths and weaknesses.
They literally tear you apart...but I guess all is well that ends well.

Well, what are your views for someone big 4 (local) trained with a ACA (pak) and CIA qualification, 3years + PQE and who comes to UK under HSMP? Whatz the min offerings and how long does it usually took to find godd work there?

Based on y research and friends there,.. these figures relate to the Financial services of Big 4. I hear that other industry practices may have a lower figure.
I think London (where the cost of living is higher) could fetch you on an average of 35-39k (in a Big 4). I am not sure about the time span and if non Big 4 are welcome. Having said that, the Job market in the practice area is pretty boyant these day. Perhaps a UK based member can shed some more light on the topic.
Have you got your HSMP Bowman, if so how long did it take, since my brother applied around a month a go. We first heard it takes less than 6 months,, now the word out is upto a year ! is that true..

Well pracs, I am looking at the available options at the moment; trying to decide between ME and UK. Havn't applied for HSMP yet, though on a points table, i am at 75. The official UK immigration website claims that there is a lag of 6 months.

£25 per hour @35 hours per wk comes to 45K, but adjust it for the 3 Wks annual holidays + 2 Wks Bank holidays + app. 8 wks study leave + say 1 wk for sick leave etc per year.
How many weeks we talking about now? say about 14 weeks, now adjust 45K with 14 weeks and you will get down to around 33K.
