This a easy question I heard once and got it right first time!!...

How many times does the number 7 appear when you count from one to a hundred?

i would have said 9 times[(], but when i started counting, i ended up with 10...

By the way its 20 times ( roughly & quickest idea )

Yes most of you are correct the answer is 20.

7, 17, 27, 37, 47, 57, 67, (7,7), 87, 97, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 78, 79

Huma and Faraz you stand corrected. I think Huma, you forgot 7 itself and the fact that 77 has two sevens, and also the 7's in the series of 70's.

Guybrush - It was an easy question considering you can get alot more difficult guesstimates during a typical interview (in UK).
I have been asked this question in the past!

1 appears 21 times

1-10-11(twice)-12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21-31-41-51-61-71-81-91-100

All other numbers appear 20 times

Followed closely by 0.. which appears 11 times..

Here is an other puzzle to keep this thread going. I hope other members will also contribute and share there opinions also.

Three men walk into a hotel and ask for a cheap room. The receptionist charges them $30. They have just gotten to their room when the bellboy showes up, says that the receptionist decided that he charged too much, and gives the three men each a dollar. (the receptionist had really given the bellboy five dollars but he kept two for himself).
think about it. each of the men paid nine dollars that's $27.
the bellboy kept two that's $29.
where is the other dollar?

Okay, time for me to make up for my earlier mistake...

The receptionist has $25, the men have $3 and the bellboy has $2. That makes $30.

Anotherway to put it would be that the $9 each of them paid includes the $2 of the bellboy, they have the remaining $3.

LET X = Y
NOW multiplying both sides with x we have
x2 = xy
subtracting y2 from both sides
x2-y2 = xy - y2
(x+y)(x-y) = y(x-y)
x+y = y
now as we know that y=x so putting y=x in above equation
x+x = x
2x = x
2x/x = x/x

2 = 1

so i have proved that two is equal to one.how is that possible?
