i m new to this forum n i need your help regarding my career.i have completed my HSC premedical this year n i got 70% marks but now i have decided to change my line.so i m preparing for CAT as well as hsc add.maths.i have heard about actuary and i m thinking about going for this profession after giving my add.maths papers but i m very confused as people have advised me not to go for this profession as its very difficult.so guys please help me out in deciding that whether i should go for actuary or complete my CAT n do ACCA.

You may decide either the actuarial or accountancy profession after your HSC. Actuarial may take longer but once qualified you'll never become unemployed and it may be easier to secure a good job in cities such as NY or London. Accountancy may take a short (on a relative basis) time but I see this profession to be very saturated, specially in Pakistan.. If you can get a CA contract from a leading accountancy firm in Pakistan.. that wouldn't be a bad choice either.
In short, both are okey professions and if you are good you will get a good job!

i was askin bcoz i havnt tchd maths for 2 yrs(i.e after my matric)
n i dont no dat whether i would b able to grasp hsc maths n make my
mathematical base strong enf 4 actuarial sciences as i hav started studtin 4 add.maths now so plz tell me dat whether i shud seriously thnk about actuary or not.

You should not be going there? And i have a reason!!
Since u were doing Med u must not be Very Good in Maths and AS FAR AS I KNWO it is all about Maths..
so... even ACCA is same but is easier than ACtaury

actually i was good in maths but i took pre medical bcoz i llkd bio but now i hav abandnd dis prfssn due to sum personnel reasons thats y i m thnkn about sum alternatives n seekin other peopls help about dem.

There is certain element of maths in actuarial syllabus, however, I think it's restricted to your calculus knowledge. An A Level Maths or its equivalent should be the minimum entry standard required to excel in this profession (only qualification level). If while doing Maths at A Level or its equivalent you think you are having ease in understanding concepts only then you shoudl pursue the actuarial qualifications as otherwise you may find the material of some difficulty.
Being an actuarial student, I will be biased but I seriously think you should map your career in advance of pursuing this or any qualification. You may appreciate that these qualification on their own wouldn't take you anywhere. If you are good and you know your niche, only then yo will become successful.

yaar i totally agree with DT..its not only Ur degree--& i wud quote him here"the importance of your degree is halved the day u get Ur 1st Job"
besides...i hav touched both professions...atleast the foundation of ActSc i.e. calculus n probability
the issue is not that which is difficult of these 2..however u wud find more people arguing that cA/ACCA is easier than ActSc..but wat i fel is dat in
Pakistan we havent got some quality ActSc teaching institutes...n the day we get that..i m sure ActSc would be atleast like doing CA/ACCA etc..if not easier
however i myself being an accountancy student would like you doing CA...remember CA from ICAP is also not an easy job...but its our gr8 teachers at TSA which make us see CA an easier job...

dear i hav heard that IOA exams are mostly theoretical n SOA r mostly numerical types...wats the fact???
