i want to admit in your country university for acca course & work permit for ongoing study, emigration
Dear Toronto boy,

Hope you're very well. I can see you have a long list of fans now, including myself! ) I really appreciate the efforts you are making to help the youngsters.. A little piece of good advice can literally change their lives!

I followed your advice and enrolled for the CFA program. I passed the June 2010 Level 1 exam in first attempt and have already registered for the level 2. I have completed my MBA Finance and have been looking for a job here in Karachi. The market has totally crashed here - Finding a 'relevant' job has become tougher than looking for some ancient fossils here! So, instead of wasting time, i have started working on the GMAT while searching for a reputable MS Economics, Finance Program in US. I have chosen the FT MBA Ranking as a benchmark to shortlist the schools that offer Finance programs as there are no specific MS Finance rankings. However, i am still confused what criteria should i use to shortlist the schools - Financing is a major concern without any doubt! Another major concern is the job market.. Does it seem to be improving in your view? Looking forward to hear from you!

Best Regards!

P.S. You could easily make a fortune by opening up a career consultancy firm! Wink

Dear 1337

Congrats on passing L1.

Well, I think if financing is a major concern, then you should go for schools that could provide you some sort of assistance etc. or if number of courses are less. GMAT score would help you much so try to get a good score. AACSB accredited MBA programs can be another option.

Job market situation is not good in Canada/ US both though people have good hopes for improvement in next 6 months or so.

In my personal view, L2 and L3 should be your prime targets at this time. Keep up the faith, I hope you would get a relevant job soon.

Regards
Dear Toronto boy,

Thanks for your wishes. Yes, l2 and l3 are indeed the prime targets for now.

Most quality MS programs are quite comprehensive and, thus expensive. So i have been looking for the one that fits my criteria. Do you think opting for another MBA program would be a sound option since i already have an MBA degree here? I have heard about some cases where they have rejected the visas because of the same reason alone.

I have been reading about the job market situation in US. People are indeed optimistic about it. The reason i am opting for a degree program in the US is to be eligible to enter into the market and settle there. I think it's the best possible route so far. What do you say?

Just by the way, i wonder, do you have any professional qualification like CFA or the CPA?

Regards
Dear 1337

I wrote about MBA because of AACSB accredition. However, its your option, though sometime people go for another MBA because of AACSB accredited US school and probable future opportunities as you are looking for. MS Finance and other programs are good options too, but you have to decide by yourself.

Well, people have been using the route you mentioned to enter US job market. Though situation has become quite difficult in last decade. Still you may try your options and luck. Thats why I say CFA L2 and L3 are your best bets.

I hold CPA license and CIA designation.

Enter code 1122 for quick search or any other relevant codes from list of occupations.

I am out of country for a long time. So, I don't know any good consultant. You may discuss your case or opportunities with other people whose cases are pending. Following forum/ thread can help too.

Hi Toronto Boy (anyone who can help)

I have read a few of your replies and found them very helpful so i would like to ask something more related to my case.

I am relocating to Canada from Dublin Ireland to get a professional accounting qualification.

I have a degree in Personnel Mnagement and an MBA.
I have contacted CMA Ontario and got some exemption. I am also eligible for the Accelerated programme which leads to the entrance exam then the SLP.

Altough through my research, i have chosen to do the CMA cos i feel i am closer to the CMA than the CGA so i would like to know if i am making a bad decision as i do not know which of them will be more beneficial to me in Canada and at the long run.

Also, i am moving to canada on a student visa and would like to know if anyone has information At the SLP programme of the CMA can i apply for/ will i get a work visa to enable me complete my 2 year SLP??

I might be wrong but i think it is more expensive and more time consuming to go for CGA but in your opinion which is the best?

Thank you and i hope to hear from someone soonest.

Dear toronto boy,

CPA and CIA designations are both notable achievements!

Can you please elaborate further what advantages does an AACSB accredited MBA program provide over other MS programs? In other words, how will it help me? CFA charter is indeed the definite target!

Regards

Dear Relocating

Both CGA and CMA programs are good, but you would have to select one by yourself based on your circumstances.

I think to complete both CGA or CMA you need Canadian work experience, but you would be on student visa, not on work visa. Please ask CGA/CMA directly whether they allow entry into program on student visa. Otherwise you would have to find some relevant job after transfering into work visa. After that you might be able to start CGA/CMA. I don't know the exact answer. Please contact them directly.

I hope it helps.

Dear 1337

In States, each college or university has accreditation with different bodies, like HEC or UGC in Pakistan. There are some accredited bodies with which various colleges and universities are affiliated. Usually, courses and programs taken from "Regionally Accredited (RA)" institutions are acceptable for jobs, further education, or transfer credits etc. AACSB approved schools are on top, and are even more acceptable than RA.

As I said earlier, admission in MS program is a good option.

Regards
Dear Toronto Boy,

Most schools in the FT and other popular lists have AACSB accreditation. If i am not mistaken, it is the school which gets the AACSB accredition. So, like u said, a MS program from an AACSB accredited school will be a good option too.

I got a few more questions for you today. I have gone through some schools' website. Some require work experience, some don't. Will it be ok to apply without having a work experience? What other factors do you think one must focus on to get into a b-school?

Which states are the best in terms of future prospects for Int'l students? I think it will be relatively easier to get some kind of part time job in urban areas. I think that's why the schools located in the urban areas should be preferred over the far-flung schools. Are there any student loans for int'l students or any other way of financing the tuition fee?

Thanks again for you time!
