The recent Bakra Beauty Contest announcement by Ufone has utterly shocked the entire Muslim nation, all around the world. In its keep with the competition attitude Ufone has forgotten that this event of sacrifice is not a mere custom but an act or religious worship, which is being practiced annually since the time of our forefather Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.). We too, in continuation of his footsteps follow this sacred act. Ufone has turned it into a gimmick trying to cash in a few more Rupees. It has asked people to make their Barkas (Goats) fancy, and an icon, which is exactly against the very essence of the teachings of Islam, and the motive to offer a sacrifice. Ufone has most definitely crossed the line and created a sense of lowlessness amongst the Muslims. Ufone should immediately issue a open public apology, and withdraw the competition or face the cancellation of its license.
It is very tragic that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has not issued any guidelines as to the publicity campaigns of cell phone operators. What can we expect from the new entrants?
