Any foreign students in Lahore? - Anarkali - 04-19-2006

Hi, everyone! Is there any foreigner studying in Lahore? I am planning to come to Lahore this year, so I'd like to know, are there other students from other countries,or I am going to be the only one...? How is my life over there going to be? Any tips and opinions related to this topic might be very helpful to me, so thank you!!!

well there are loads of students from many different places all over the country...you wont be the only one, and dont worry its not an alien country, you would be fine.

- Anarkali - 04-20-2006

I know it's not an alien country, I've there before and I enjoyed a lot, that's one of the reasons I wanna return...But I was considered sort of alien at the Pakistan Embassy, when they told me I am the first and the only one in my country applying to study in Pakistan )
That's why I got bit worried, but thanks a lot for ur encouragement...

Anarkali if by 'foreigners' you mean of Pakistani origin there are a plenty of them.. apart from this there are also quite a number of students from various African and Arab Countries studying in Lahore. I myself went to study for my B.com to Lahore, having been schooled all my life in Dubai. I am not sure which country you are coming from. There would be a bit of culture shock to begin with but it is a very competitive and vibrant culture. I must say the kind of competition I found in Lahore added a lot to my life as a student, ofcourse after B.com I went to M.com and then ICAP foundation exam and articles so it was a whole 9 year package that's made me what I am today.

It does help a lot if you have relatives in your peer group 'cousins' who go to a simialr college or degree course.

Let us know how your Pakistan experience came about. Don't get bogged down with the official 'bureaucracy' in our country, you know after all we are a third world country...

no...by "foreigners" I mean pure "foreigners"...no Pakistani origin...no Pakistani friends or relatives...[(]
and I am not coming from an Arab country, not even from an African one...I am from an East European country, and I am not afraid of third world countries, after all, I am living in one myself, yet in europe[p]
No doubt Pakistan is very different from everything I am used to, even I dont understand what U mean by B.com and M.com and ICAP..., in my country the educational system is very different...by the way, I am now searching for a suitable University, can U give me some suggestions?I am interested in getting a bachelor's degree in Pakistani Studies, language, culture, history and civilisation...any ideas?

anyways, thanks a lot for ur detailed reply, hope to hear from U again... Anarkali

i was thinking that you are from india......i know many of foreign students and they are from arabic countries, Africa and Asia. and alos know few of student from india (Doing ACCA). i have never seen any student from Europe except pakistani origin or embaster's childern.

so you might be the one who is coming from europe to pakistan for study.

B.com is a bechlor degree, M.com is a master degree (com stand for commerce) adn ICAP is a CA (Chartered Accountant) qualification.

Language
In pakistan you can do master degree in English Language/ Urdu and Arabic

History

you can aslo obtain Master degree in History (but dont know what kind of history [D])

i dont know if you can get degree in civilisation, culture.

<font color="navy"></font id="navy"><font size="2"></font id="size2"><font face="Verdana">Hi!

As u r interested in getting a bacehlor's degree in Pakistani studies and language, I suggest that Islamabad wud be a better choice than lahore. Quiet a large number of foreign students (Especially from Africa, Arab, China and many other countries) study in universities like Quaid e Azam University (www.qau.edu.pk), Islamic University (www.iiu.edu.pk) plus these r all reputable universities with good faculties.

Hmmmm....Kinda scary thought, to be the only one coming from Europe...But it can be an interesting experience, as well...
Thanks a lot for the details U gave me, i kept hearing about B.com and M.com, but no one ever bothered to explain it to me so far...[})]

So first comes the B.degree, and only after that I can get the M. degree...have I understood U right?[p]
k... I will see what I can do...hope things will turn just fine for me...

Thanks a lot for the suggestion...yet I am crazy about Lahore (as city), Islamabad is also an option for me...Do U know by any chance if in Islamabad they offer special, sparate courses for foreigners, or they all study together with the Pakistani students? Cause i don't speak Urdu at all, so I would need to take it from scratch...

Lahore is preferable if u r interested in Business Studies, Like Business administration, Chartered Accountancy and even IT related courses, as there r some really good universities offering such courses. But since u don't intend to go for any of the above, Islamabad is then a better option. National University of Modern Languages(www.numl.edu.pk) is one of the premier universities of the country based in Islamabad (now they have a campus at Lahore as well)offering courses in different languages at all levels. U can contact them at

[email protected]

for any querries regarding separate classes.

anarkali...please tell us specifically....what is it that u want to achive by coming to pakistan...is it a career objective kind of thing...or ...u want to know the culture and explore the country...

- ausmanpk2001 - 05-06-2006

NUML has got a lot of foreign students. they speak usually english & their languages. it is probable that you may find a few european students there............... dont worry about the language stuff. its fine even if you speak english.

from which eastern european country are you?

- Anarkali - 05-08-2006

Well, Noman...I wanna do them both!!!
I already have a job here in my country, but I dont really find pleasure in it...so i want to get them both...To know the country and the culture, the past and the present, but also to be able to get a good job afterwards, based on the degrree i will achive there, so that I could finally do as a career something I really feel passion for...
To be even more specific, there are specialists in every field...so if u wanna put it this way, I wanna become a specialist in Pakistan and everything Pakistan implies, from the general things I've already learnt on my own, till the least details, that only few chosen people know, and only a specific academic career can help me to achieve them..

- ausmanpk2001 - 05-09-2006

thats really great! anarkali.
but if you wanna make a career in pakistan by studying urdu or pak studies, then its a really very bad option. there's really no career in these subjects here. it would be better if you make a career there in your country.
