the assumption that it's not allowed in religion is not baseless but i guess it's not the right forum to discuss this issue.
just to share the basis of my decision i would say
1. check the origin of birthday (through google and wiki etc.)
2. In many Ahadith Rasoolullah (SAW) has forbidden following the traditions of other religions
3. birthday celebrations which are based on religion (the cake, candles, wishes etc.) are not only traditions but part of religion (worship of moon goddess - cake, smoke from blown candles taking your wishes directly to the goddess - candle blow etc.)
3. Islam only follows Islamic callendar
4. While these may not be enough proofs, it is still doubtful and there is a Hadith to restrain from what is doubtful.
5. Even if there is a slight chance of birthdays affecting our religion, is it worth taking the chance? is birthday so important to take the chance to make Allah (SWT) angry? We won't celebrate our birthday even if there is a remote chance that the one whom we love will get angry.
I hope I cleared my point but please don't argue with me because I am not a Mufti. It's just that I have a doubt and that's why I keep away from it.

Well,you put me in an awkard position......I mean you mentioned some of the reasons why you don't celeberate birthdays & at the end you also urged me not to argue since you are not a mufti.
So,dear let me tell you that I too am not a learned person but let me tell you what I know so that this might benefit you & yes me,not looking for arguments.
Birthdays are not forbidden for sake of celebrating so why do some scholars discourage it??
First,it must be noted that celebrating birthdays of particular personalities is not allowed as this may lead to idol worship & majority of scholars agree on this.
Celebrating one's own birhtday is dicouraged because of the practices that are done which makes it forbidden for e.g music,wishes,mingling of sexes,.....etc. So if one remains within islamic limits then it's allowed.
ALLAH knows best.

Tum sb ko mairi hi birthday mai taqreerain krni thin? waisy agreed with osama jaisy hum mnaty hain hum sy murad mai .. . k bus hum gher waly hoty hain choty bhai ki dfa to cake ata hai but baqion ki dfa bus acha sa dinner hi krty hain or gifts or duain laity hain.n i think is trhan kisi ka din acha bnanay mai burai bhi koi ni hai.

What you discussed, I agree with that. Dear, I was pointing out to celebration or a tradition that is related to another religion (please check the origin of birthdays). Bohat sare log kehte hain keh 'hum is niyat se nahee karte' but agar us ka origin kisi aur religion se hai to tumhari niyet apni jaga, woh kaam to bahar haal ghalat hee hoga. please think from the point of view of 'origin of birthdays'. I will try to post a comprehensive article on birthday celebrations later in this forum.
p.s. I do not claim birthday celebrations to be wrong or stop anyone from it. as i said, I have a doubt and it is very clear that if you have a doubt about something, stay away from it.
