Routes to become Income Tax Practiotiner - Alia - 09-20-2004

Hello

I am a student of BCom and am in final year now. I want to get a good job in the field of Income Tax but due to the reason that no 1 in my family has chosen the Commerce education, I am totally unaware of all the opportunities related to education and job in this sector.

Can u please tell me what courses i should do after I have cleared (Inshallah) my Bachelors? I really want to go to an Income Tax related organisation... of IF not that, then I want to get some good job in Accounting...

Thankyou.

Start LLB and join any income tax practitioner, if u want to become expert in income tax.
and if u want to choose Accounting as career, then you can do ACCA, CA, ACMA etc. by doing CA and ACCA (i m not aware about ACMA) you can choose taxation as your career.

It might help if you chose to prospective employers or researched the type of position you want and then look at the education/ experience criteria for the position. Alternatively you could also speak to tutors and look in the positions vacant in the National/ Local Newspaper.

In order to work in the tax field you would need to cover tax laws - is that covered in your current studies in Commerce.

To get an Accountancy role or career in Accountancy I think the UK/ Pakistan differ a lot. I would say try to get some experience first and then aim for a professional qualification that will aid you in your career.

Hope that helps!

Dear Mr.Raza

Dig this

An ACMA ( even an ACMA inter ) can get him/herself registered as an I.T.P.

On the contrary ( correct me if i am wrong ) an ACCA goes through the U.K. variant of Taxation ( Most prob. from Dec 2004 onwards they will have the option of the Local one ) .

Thanks for your gullible confession .

Just a pc of advice

Sorry... but what is this I.T.P.???

- Pracs - 09-21-2004

ITP - refers to Income Tax Practitioner... following people can register themselves as ITP

A Practicing lawyer (having articled n number of years with an Income tax lawyer)

A part qualified cost accountant / Qualified ACMA
A part qualified chartered accountant / Qualified CA
A Qualified Public accountant (APA).

In Pakistan most of the big corporate tax accounts are held by firms of Chartered Accountants, a lot of other Tax accounts are handled by other ITPs...

A lot more depends on what your future aspirations are; to be an ITP,.. a broader accounting - tax career ?? ofcourse how much time and money you can invest in realising your career ??

Alia

to become an ACMA you need to register with ICMAP (Institute of Cost and Management Accoutants of Pakistan). minimum eligibilty is Bachelors in any decipline, B-Com will help you alot atleast till foundation stage. there are six parts altogether divided in two stages

Foundation Stage
2 parts - Foundation1 and Foundation 2

Professional Stage
Professional 1, Professional 2, Professional 3 and Professional 4

each part takes a minimum of 6 months, so if you manage to clear all in first go - you can complete an CMA within 3 years.

you can find more info on http//www.icmap.com.pk

ICMAP has campuses all over Pakistan, 2 campuses in Karachi, one in Soldier Bazar and Head Office just behind NIPA Chowrangi. You dont have to join any other college as regular classes are held within ICMAP for all the stages, although you can opt for a correspondence course (recommended if you are working) in which you dont have to take classes instead you have to submit required number of assignments on given topics.

hope this will help.

these types of discussions can be done on 'general discussions' forum, create a new topic there and we all can share our views on harry potter books.

yes J.K Rowling has written a masterpiece all 5 of them and i am sure that the story will get more interesting when the sixth book will be released on the new year

- Azeem Shah Khan - 09-25-2004

its not senseless........you can discuss anything on this forum but as APOCLYPSE mentioned under General Discussion folder.

yes most of us love reading books.
