ICAP Announces its passing criteria - Ahmadraza - 11-02-2004

Aslam-O-Alaikum

I just want to ask about the Icap's decision about its passing criteria which has been announced on Saturday, October 30, 2004 in its 43 AGM. Many people are saying that it is not a good decision keeping in view the pattern of the papers , while the others thought that it is a good decision , WhAt dO yOu ThInK

Hoping for a healthy response

ICAP hikes passing marks to 50pc

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 30 The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) declared on Saturday that the passing marks would be 50 per cent. The disclosure was made for the first time and it aimed at bringing about greater transparency in the examinations of ICAP.

A press release issued by ICAP said that decisions made in an earlier meeting of the Council held in the morning on Saturday, were conveyed to the members in the 43rd Annual General Meeting. The meeting was presided over by the President of ICAP, Zafar Iqbal Sobani.

The president also apprised members of other decisions taken at the council meeting, which included (1) The council approved in principle the formation of the Accounting Standard Board and the Quality Assurance Board which would include besides the members of the institute, independent members representing the constituents, so as to ensure transparency and independence in line with best international practices and (2)The council also approved the draft Training Regulations and Guidelines for exposure to general membership and the same had been placed on Institute's website. The website was also said to include Discussion Board for members' comments on the Exposure draft.

The ICAP press release stated that after the AGM, the Facilitation centre equipped with newly developed software for one window operation catering for the members and students was inaugurated by M.Afzal Munif, Past President, ICAP.

So it finally happens,.. I guess that will take care of all the moaning when we fail,.. I think it is postive, your fail at 49 and pass at 50,.. fair enough.!!

But i think it will only help us if they will disclose our marks too as if they won't then what's the use of disclosing this criteria as i will never be able to know what did i perform in the paper.....don't u agree with me?

- idreesdurrani - 11-06-2004

Yeah i agree with u waht abt the disclosure..... a nice way to avoid crititcism ....Disclosure of passing marks is of no use unless they tell u how much u got....further r they going to adjust their GRADING system for this. let's see...

O Lord! Increase me in knowledge...Ameen!

whats the use...

i don't think anyone would have ever thought that
icap's passing criteria could be anything below 50%.
