CPA is only a revered degree in the US and the middleast (where british and australian/canadian qualifications are equally regarded),.. the rest of the world pretty much follow there own.. I guess the commonwealth has more regards towards its iwn qualification,, ie from the UK, Canada, Australia/NZ and now even South Africa...

As far as the exam standards are concerned,, its not tough at all.. I haven't heard any pakistani or indian CA failing to pass it. There is no ''international audit licsence"" as such .. you can practice in the US only if you have been trained there...

There are no exemptions for ICAP.. yeah a pakistani CA is eligible to sit for the exams ... because of a logger head between the US body AICPA and other common wealth Institutes of CA's there are no reciprocal exemption at all.

Since IFRS are going to be the standards world over, I see CPA loosing its relevance unless they come up with an ''Internationl stream''...

Yeah BTW,, CA is the prime qualification in CANADA and not CPA..

as you know they have the maimum no. of members..
so, what in world would stop them from compeeting other EQUALENTS"

i can see only few organizations with safer future...
1- ICAP
2- ACCA
3- AICPA..

if u r a an accountant in USA Yes it is the most prestigious in the field.....but if u r in Pakistan then ICAP is unsurpassed........i.e the best in the field

- Toronto_Boy - 03-03-2007

I just want to explain that CPA exams are conducted ONLY in USA. So a candidate MUST have to go to USA to appear in the exam that may be an obstacle to many of Pakistani candidates if they do not have a valid VISA.

One of my young cousin need advice regarding following CA career from abroad, eg Canada, US or Australia. Can you tell the pro-and-cons of doing CA from these places or point me to some relevant information. He should know how to plan career, studies, what are requirements, how much expense will be, which country's qualification works where, current job market there and may be put some light on comparing it with Pakistan.

I will guide him based on your response.

Thanks in advance
Muhammad Shuja
