Ehrar Ul Hasan APA,ACMA,CIA(Usa),MA(Eco),CIMA(Inter),IBP-Stage-I & II (Only Sky is the limit.$$$.....) - Irfan5 - 07-13-2009 Dear Mr Ehrar, This is irfan, working as internal auditor in a leaing pesticide since last 3 yrs, after compleing M.com for PU. I hv set my goal to be a CIA, got registered and started studies, but everybody is saying that its not an easy game coz most of CA,s are unable to complete it, Me too find that the language used in the study material of Gleim is not as easy as we study in our local exams, being a CIA can u give me some tips how to prepare for it and compelete finally, regards, irfan - Toronto_Boy - 07-14-2009 Dear Irfan5 Though you have directly addressed Mr. Ehrar, but I thought perhaps I may give you some tips, as Ehrar's last post was in 2005. Yes, language used by gliem is not easily comprehendible. Mostly, it is the language used by original practice advisories and standards. If you have not studied internal auditing before, you may get any basic book on internal auditing which would give you some understanding of role of internal auditor in an organization, his relationship with senior management and the board of directors. How does he add value to governance, risk management, and control processes of an organization. Though I haven't seen Swayer's internal auditing book, but some people said on this forum that a photocopy is available in big cities of Pakistan. I believe it must be a good book. Use of such material alongwith Gliem would certainly help you a lot, if you have not studied internal auditing before. Practicing Gliem's MCQs and reading explainations should be sufficient after reading material. I hope it helps. Best Wishes - Irfan5 - 07-15-2009 Dear Toronto Boy, Many tks for ur precious words and time, it seems that u have attempted CIA or may be completed, pls advise, yes i had studied internal audit in M.com last decaDE,but this language is killing me, its too phemonenon.Do u have some gud notes from outside pakistan(if u are from other than pak). tks again for ur help tc. - Toronto_Boy - 07-16-2009 Dear Irfan5 Long ago, I studied a course in management auditing. Also, got a chance to see Gliem's material. Whatever you studied in MCom a decade ago is not enough. I would again suggest you to get a good basic book in internal auditing (perhaps from PU or any other library in your city) and study by yourself to make an initial base. I would also suggest you to have Swayer's Internal Auditing book (photocopy is available in big cities in Pakistan). Search this forum, I have seen exact contact information from where photocopy of this book can be purchased. You may also contact local chapter of IIA in Pakistan to buy such material in Pakistan. I am quite sure, lot of resources are available in Paksitan these days. Make sure, you have not downloaded Gliem's 2004 reading material available from various internet sites, because it does not have any explanation but only practice advisories and Standards in formal lingo. It is quite useless, in my view, for someone who is developing his base. Also, quite difficult to comprehend. Do you have Gliem's MCQs software? You can export chapterwise MCQs in Windows XPS format, have a print of those, and read explanation of each option, even the wrong one to develop your understanding. I am sorry, I have never been a notes person, nor had and neither keep any. Check this thread; http//www.accountancy.com.pk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1344&whichpage=1 Best Wishes - Irfan5 - 07-21-2009 Hi Toronto Boy, tks again for time, i have searched Swerys book online but that cost 110 dollars, which is too much for me, can u give me some cite from where i can download it for free. or some gud material which anybody can send me on my address on this topic. i would really be greatful. regards - Toronto_Boy - 07-22-2009 Yes, original book is costly. But likely copy is available in Pakistan. Contact IIA chapter in Pakistan or in your city to get additional resources. Why don't you try any basic book in internal auditing to develop base. Personally, I don't know if any book on internal auditing is available on internet. You may google it. Regards - Toronto_Boy - 07-23-2009 Dear Ina wrote in his posts of Dec 08/09, 2004 of above mentioned thread, "WA, Please contact Mr Safdar Abid phone Number 03004592625 for a photo copy of CIA REVIEW...You can find Sawyer's Internal Auditing from the same person for Rs. 2000/ (ie a photo copy). This book is in two volumes. I think the original book costs around $200." Have you tried to contact Mr. Safdar Abid?
