Passing ICAEW examinations are as tough as passing ICAP examinations.

www.icaew.co.uk

You cannot do ICAEW after your intermediate. At least thats how it was when one of my friends applied. You have to be a graduate or at least should've completed GCE A Levels.

how come the number of people passing ICAEW is higher than the ICAP. I really dont know the inside story but I heared both the bodies do relative marking and passing %age of the student is ICAP is very, very low. Heard that!

I second ehson on this.

ICAEW Professional Stage - % pass rates Dec-04
Accounting 86.9
Audit & Assurance 79.8
Business Finance 82.1
Business Management 82.8
Financial Reporting 82.8
Taxation 78.4
ICAEW Advanced Stage - % pass rates
Business Environment 81.3
Business Life Cycle 81.3
Advanced Case Study 75.5

you can also check the previous three years results and see the result in each subject has always ( I repeat always) been more than 68%.(The percentage is mostly above 80 in individual subjects)http//www.icaew.co.uk/viewer/index.cfm?AUB=TB2I_72890 I DONT AGREE AT ALL THAT MY FRIENDS BACK IN PAKISTAN ARE, IN ANY WAY, LESSER INTELLIGENT THAN THOSE PASSING ICAEW EXAMS.

ICAP, God bless you.

there is also some panga with ICAEW articleship. they dont recognize the 4yrs (now 3.5yrs) of hardwork that ICAP students do here in Pakistani firms.

[(]

they recognise articleship done in backward countries like Malta but with case of Pakistan, they have a very ______attitude

ICAEW never did recognize articles (ICAP) as they don't have reciprocal membership with ICAP.

It is extremely difficult to get a training contract with any of the good firms in the UK. Just to add to Suman's earlier post, you do need to get a contract with an accounting firm. The Big4 accounting firm's mainly sponsor visa's and that happens usually for Expatriate students from British Uni's mostly. Plus bear in mind that the Big 4 have quite high intake standard levels at Graduate level (and most firms do expect atleast a graduate degree). Most candidates that are accepted in come from the top 10 or so British Uni's.
