Once upon a time, some 50 years back, the Pakistani schooling system (i.e. Matric / Inter) was considered the best. Because there was no other alternative, except to send your kids to UK/US when they were about 8/9 years old.
Slowly O and A levels were introduced. These did not become popular overnight. Most of the people still sticking with the local system.
As time progressed more schools were converting to O levels. Elites started sending their kids to these schools. When KGS also moved to O levels, it got a great push.
O levels might not be better than Matric, certainly its not more difficult. Many people are getting 10/11/12 As, while Matics top performers are fewer.
Now, a lot more students (number wise) appear for Matric than O levels, but still those kids with ambition (and money) prefer O levels.
Similary ACCA is just a few years old in Pakistan. And its gaining popularity. Its only a matter of time when it replaces ICAP strength wise. ICAP will only be restricted to audit practices since they have the monopoly for it.
And good jobs in Pakistan are not just based on qualifications. Its more about who you know in the organisation.

salaam all,

ppl, enough iz enough!!!! now just stop this wild goose chase. plz!!! it is just a pethatic thing, u know(((
i always contend tht no qualification is good or bad in absolute sense. it happens in relative sense, instead. there might b some qualifications tht r better thn ACA n ACA on many grounds. will u start defiling ACA n ACCA both, after this??? hannnnnnnn????
ACCA n ACA, both ve their plus n minus points. it doeznt mean tht v start foisting 'shits' upon other qualifications!!!!
these things r just an instrument to pave our ways.
come on, n stop it now. it really has got not a single use!!!!

It is the fact that you will find the most brilliant and dumb people in every profession.
I have seen lot of CAs who are not so brilliant in their profession, i have also seen un-qualified people having good professional skills as compared to CAs.
so just passing the exams doesnt make you an exceptional person, some born qualities do play an important role.
as i said earlier exceptions are there in every field, but if talk about a profession as a whole we donot take into considerations those exceptions,
now coming back to the topic, i.e. comparison of ACCA & CAs,
the basic crieteria in my opinion, is the salary drawn by the professionals, of course, average salaries, and Fresh Qualified CA (nowadays) is getting around Rs. 25K to 30K starting salary with car (on immediate joining and after 3 to 6 months in some cases)
but if we compare the same with ACCAs, the fresh qualified ACCAs are getting much lower than CAs, Reason behind the same is the ICAPs monopoly (already discussed), Lack of articleship (due to non existence of strict policy of articleship by ACCA) etc. etc.
But we will have to accept the fact that qualifying CA is much difficult as compared to ACCA, the reason is well known to all of us ( I am not underestimating the passing of ACCAs).
As i have already mentioned in my earlier posts, that ACCAs are capturing the pakistani markets day by day. We hope to see the ACCAs in practice in future, then we will be able to actually compare both the professions, but it will take time, in my opinion it will take a minimum of 5 to 10 years.

thanks for the permission GOODMAN....

smraza if you look at my earlier posts i was trying to explain the same points to NASCAR and he was going over the top....and my retaliations were geared against his posts....

contributions from other people have made him quiet....i guess.

GOODMAN yaar i m a very calm person under "normal circumstances" and dont really like to have go on people like one i mentioned above......but you know sometimes you are left with NO option.
if you look at his posts when he was instigating ACCAs nobody was coming up with a reasonable answer.......and thats what prompted me

anyway the war is over now .........yes after his retreat ......just kidding.

take care

Now let the canons get freezed,
I am of the opinion that there must be a professional jealousy provided the same must be shown in a professional way, not like Nascar.

Cheers.

Well i can vouch for the 'professional jelousy' i'd like to call it 'he passed and i did'nt' syndrome.. i saw that a lot when I was going through my articles.. where I sandwiched my ACCA into my CA.. apart from jealous Seniors I had to co op with official cold shoulder... getting practically little or no study leave for any ACCA exam and at times being passed over for promotions. But once I passed ACCA things changed and I did get the respect a qualified accoutant would get.!!

I personally like and had always worked with a team who has been aggressive, professionally. I quite like people with aggressive strategies and forward thinking views. I think what Azeem said comes in that and personally I approve it, infact I love it. I think Azeem could be very successful in winning new business and dealing complex tax enquires (its my honest opinion). What Nescar said had a element of fear in it as if he is going to loose the prestige. Now that’s my assessment, I could be wrong. so Azeem always fire away aggressively what you have in your mind and you will always win as long as you are honest.

SMR you mentioned salary level, I pay more salary to ACCA trainee than a qualified ICAP gets (as per you post). What do you make of this?

that ACCA trainee must be your relative i mean younger brother......just kidding,

I am totally agreed with your statement, even you must be paying more salary to a peon in UK than a CA is getting in Pakistan at the moment.
I am talking about the pakistani scenario, ACCAs may have worth in UK but in pakistan, as i told you, it will take time.

SMR
I would not go in to any more detail, but the guy know the UK taxation and is in pakistan and the money is in Rs.

- smraza - 09-23-2004

Exceptions are always there.
I am going to take admission in ACCA, and coming to you as audit trainee <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
