CFA is a very industry specific qualification mostly related tot he financial sector like banks, funds, AMCs, investment firms etc...

on the other hand CA and ACCA are very much general and accredited by both financial and non financial sector.

cfa has has proven track in financial industry.

yeah CEO position is related to profit maximization of shareholders so CFA designation might prove to be beneficial in this course. But it is not a rule of thumb. Infact CFAs are hired mostly by distressed equity firms and mostly you ll find them in investment or asset management side of financial sector. I think CPA and other accounting certifications are more worthwhile in the long run since their demand is never down. CFAs biggest employers are the banks that we are now seeing underwater like citigroup etc.

But I also agree with Mishran it has a proven track in Fin industry

The focus is changing.. Let me explain my point through an example

> Suppose you have a sore throat.. At first hand what will u do ?
> Just take a panadol or any other antibiotic- But still not well ?
> You will go for a course of medicines like Velocef etc - still not well ?
> YOu will seek advice from any family doctor or a general practinor, but still not well ?
> You will now consult a specialist doctor...............

The same is the case with paksitans investments sector now a days, its in a utter state of dispair, Finantial crunch, Banks are laying off employees.. and all that hustle and bustle.. Now thats whre CFA comes in.. The specialist of the finance field... As u will consult a specialist doctor as the last resort likewise now commercial / investment banks and related institutions are reverting to CFA after such a finantial Crunch... They are laying of like 1-2 CA's and hiring a CFA to manage their INVESTMENT Related affairs..

So the qualification to go for is CFA..

Dears,

There is no argument that CFA is one of the best specializations of the financial sector.

However I don't agree that there had been major lay offs in Pakistani banks. We, however, saw lay offs by some foreign banks like citibank.

I may also clear that noone of banks at Pakistan and specially Pakistani banks laid off any CA for the reason of any crises. There is not a single example of such lay off any where across the whole sector. This must be understood before making comparisons.

Further, there would be a very small number of CFAs hired by banks here since the outset of our banking history and specially during the current economic downfall such hiring, if any, would be quite fewer.

I am just clarifying the situation and this by no means should be construed as some remarks against CFA.

Regards,

Kamran.

You can have CFAs heading up as CEOs or COOs for a very specific and specialised sector of the financial industry. The kind of training a CFA is mandated to get to hold a charter does not necessarily make him the best candidate to take up pure management positions, but ofcourse, research, financial advice, investment advice and management.
