Considering from a very limited scope, bearing in mind KSE plays an important role, here's what the KSE website says

"Karachi Stock Exchange has been declared as the "Best Performing Stock Market of The World For the year 2002". As on February 2004, 697 companies are listed with a market capitalization of Rs. 1,262.9 billion (US$ 22.0 billion) having listed capital of Rs. 358.9 billion ( US$ 6.3 billion ). The KSE 100 Index touched at 4907.94 on February 10, 2004."

So I guess we're not stagnant or declining.

1. How about making Pakistan's Tax Regime more transparent?

2. How about considering more ways to attract more Female participation in the labour force? We have about 45% of female population and unfortunately, very few of them actually take part in the economic activities - meaning more burden on breadwinner, which in most cases is a male.

3. Selection for Jobs etc. ONLY on MERIT?

You seem to have gotten some of your facts wrong DT. Women consist of 55% of the national population according to the national census as opposed to 45%.

Only one thing is needed right now to get more participation of womenfolk. Just try to increase their literacy rate which is abysmal right now. If done properly, we can see marked improvement in about a decade's time.

A common man has nothing to do with the KSE hundred index's record, level of foreing xchange reserves etc etc etc, thats all rubbish,
One day he faces the price of petrol say Rs.30 and after some days it is Rs.35, with his income stagnant, what benefits he will get from these fake economic indicators.
the economy is said to be in prosperity if the standard of living of the people and per capita income increases day by day. (not like Pakistan where both these things are limited to 3 to 5 % of the total population)

we pay taxes to the govt. with a view that some part of that will be spend on us, we will be provided with the best infrastructure facilities, while coming from seaview last night, the police stopped us near hotel marriot for a special checking (which was ended after a call which i had to make to one of my friends), the whole Pakistan Police and Army have assigned with the job of protecting Americans only.

Today Shaukat Aziz released a statement that in the next budget Pakistan will payback its loan to IMF.

How much truth is inside it.
