AF, why don't you try studying for ACA (ICAEW) or CA (ICAP), assuming you are a post-graduate degree holder. Although, I don't technically belong to the accountancy profession, but, never the less, I have quite a few friends into the Profession, working for Big 4, and whenever we happen to chat about which qualification has better career opportunities, their first responce is always ACA. I am also aware of some technical aspect of these qualifications, like for some qualifications, you cant practice within pakistan until unless you don't pass relevant exams from ICAp, for instance, but I hope seniours would correct if I am mistaken some where.

Anyways, as I always say to my juniors, it's not what you know that matters in the business world, its 'how' you present it that is much more important.

ACCA at the moment doesn't have a well-settled and predictable market in Pakistan... If you want to finance yourself, I would never recommend you to do CA... ACCA would be much better

CA would be very time consuming for you considering you've done your MCom... ACCA would be a better route assuming you get articles in a multinational such as PSO or Unilever, as they pay you relatively more than what firms pay to their trainees... However, even that is a very small amount...

But keep in mind, as of how things stand right now, don't expect to get a very good job after doing ACCA... You will need a three year work experience too...

But never be demotivated by things as such... If you think you are better than others, I'm sure you'll be able to find a nice job... More depends on your interpersonal skills, the way you present yourself, your personality.

Yes ACCA is offering Pakistani law and tax variants from the next examination session... ACCA exempts the first five exams (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2) after MBA, and that too being on a bit strict basis, varying from institutions from where MBA was done... I have no idea about M.Com, i'm sure other senior members would shed some light on this matter...

Which city do you reside in? That would make it easier to recommend institutions.

Acca's are getting more recognized each day ..major factor for thier low market is due to the attitude of acca students..they have inferiority complex that they cant do some thing better then aca's ....

if u overcome this ..u can still get good job....

i had only 14 months experiance and have cleared one part three paper ..and have offered very good job in big comapny.....

acca's recent decision will also play a major role in its future market ..i suppose..

hi,

Nice to hear that you have done your M.Com. and then you are persuing ACCA qualification. I dont know much about it as I come from the actuarial profession. In my profession, one has to study a lot along with the job. If you know about this profession (Actuarial Science), then you must be also knowing that there are only 19 people qualified in this profession in Pakistan, and not more than a 1000 in the whole world. From this fact you can judge for your self the profile required for this job.

One thing I know is that there is always a space at the top. Work hard, and a bit more!

Never be disappointed, believe in your self and above all believe in Allah. Success comes by His will, and He wills success for hard working people. There is never a short cut in life, so stick to your ambitions and work hard.

Doing a job along with studies is really difficult, but this is what hard work is!

Wishing you best of luck!

Regards,

Ameer Zaid

Mr. Zaid, its quite interesting to note that even professionals don't have 'accurate' statistics about the number of 'qualified' actuaries.....

According to the Institute of Actuaries, (only one of the Actuarial Qualifications Awarding Body in the World) has 7052 Fellows (excluding Honorary Fellows), correct as at June 2003.

I don't know where did you get the '1000' from...

mmm, not all Actuarials have "InAccurate" membership statistics.

On the SoA side(U.S Life/Pension track) There are currently 29 qualified SoA members in Pakistan including both ASAs and FSAs (29 does NOT include IoA members in Pakistan, add IoA members too and there will be around 30-40 Actuaries altogether in Pakistan). All around the world there are over 17,000 SoA members, yeah over 17,000!(Only SoA members alone)

IoA(U.K) Don't know for sure, but I believe DT's figures above would be accurate on it.

CAS(U.S Property/Casualty track) atleast 3,500 members around the world, none in Pakistan.

Then we have Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Australian Institute, Faculty of Actuaries in Scottland etc etc. The figure kept increasing and increasing....many Western countries have Universities offering strong Academic programs in Actuarial Science, so don't get amused by the number of qualified members there.

19 is wrong too, but give him a break! The person was posting with his May exam on the wire. Maybe we should appreciate him for taking time in making the post.
