I feel that investing in a non-modifiable ERP system such as Oracle Financials or SAP is a recipe for disaster. The cost is high and the frustration among employees leads to dissatisfied users who feel 'powerless' instead of being 'empowered' with what they need. It is much better to use ACCPAC Pro Series SQL which provides the source code for complete customisation- whatever the industry. It is in use by textile spinning, chemical, textile made up, appliances and telecommunication companies in Pakistan. Imagine entering a payable amount once, then printing laser cheque net of withholding tax, printing tax challan, printing aging reports, inquiring payment status, printing input tax register... the list is very long. This all due to the "source code"!
Buy ACCPAC Pro Series Enterprise for VFP or SQL at a fraction of cost of Oracle or SAP or Peoplesoft et all..

The source of employee dissatisfaction is not associated with non-availability of source code. Just getting the source code bundeled with the software doesn't ensure that your employees are satisfied. The problem lies in what we normally refer to as "Business Process Reengineering". This term is mostly used by software firms to change the way companies do business i.e. changing the business processes that the company has been following for decades. This means that the software firm forces its client to abandon its previous methods of conducting business and follow what has been modeled in the software. In reality, the software should model the exisitng business model of a company.
Although, SAP is very expensive ($33 million implementation at Lakson group by SAP Malaysia) it is fairly agile when it comes to modelling business. Nevertheless, all SAP (or Oracle financial) consultants tend to impose the so called "Best Business Practices" on Pakistani companies, which have their very own version of "Best Business Practices". It should be understood that these "Best Business Practices" followed by SAP, ORACLE consultants are produced by western experts by keeping in mind the western business practices.
So, my advice is to forget SAP and big names like that unless you have a lot of spare money. When looking for an ERP always remember that
1. Don't switch overnight from existing system to the new system.
2. Let your employees adjust by training
3. Make sure that your ERP fits into your business processes...
Again, companies don't have much use of source code. Getting the source code only serves as security in case the software firm is dissolved. In this case, your company can hire another company for the maintenance of the implemented ERP because the source code is available.

These are the points for success.
BTW, we have implemented textile solution covering purchasing, sales, fabric manufacturing [own + overhead (this is the term)], sizing, fabric inventory, yarn inventory, general and spares stores inventory, payroll and integrated general ledger with other modules. System has provision to calculate valuation of fabric and yarn inventory, value of work in progress and finally cost of good sold.
It took us 1 1/2 year to analyze, design, develop and implement this system having > 60 screens and > 350 reports and documents. The company is using on a single server connecting 4 separate locations.
The name of the game was business process reengineering and employee / management expectation management.

i think ERP is the system which build accounting software. some software are build in Excel.
and ERP is build with the help of Access, Visual Basic etc.

Excel is neither a software nor an ERP. ERP is a program which is design to integrate all activities of an enterprise to integrate the all activities of a business.
Please search on web. There is lot of information on ERP.

so now we are having such APPLICATION softwares.... which are MAKING softwares... and they are even making even ERP... yani k jo concept hai woh bhi software mein agaya hai...
Sammad... u really need some research on the word ERP as well as everything that is in the microsoft office suite... and what they are "capable" of...

Nothing special, it look like everyone is advertising their ERP product,ORACLE & PEOPLE SOFT, SAP, ACCPAC, MS-GP DYNAMICS, JD-EWARDS.
All these ERP are not important, important thing your understanding of current/manual systems follows-mean your operatinal manual (policy + proceedures), and ultimately your objective/target.
