If you're planning for a long term stay in Canada, you should go for CPA... If not, then go for CA... CICA (Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants) has reciprocal membership with ICAEW...

For more information about 'reciprocal membership'

In exact words reciprocal membership means 'you will need to pass an aptitude test which will ensure your competence in, for example, UK Law, Auditing and Financial Reporting standards and statements and Taxation'

Hence, an ACA from CICA will have to pass that aptitude test to become an ICAEW.

Hi,
You might wanna check this link
http//www.icao.on.ca//index.cfm/ci_id/1768.htm
regarding the reciprocal arrangements between ICAEW and ICAO (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario) as you will most likely study in an Ontario University like "U of T" or Waterloo etc.

I'm leaving for Canada in a few months time to do my CA. I would also like to know the value of Canadian CA's in Pak. I know the exemptions from ICAP are similar to those offered to ICAEW. But what about the job situation. Anybody???

Hi
Well, the thing is that CICA is the Canadian CA body but they have a seperate body for each province. You have to fulfill the educational requirements of the province you want to study in and then sit for the exam of CICA. Assuming you want to study in Ontario (Where Toronto is and where most Pakistanis go to) the CA body is ICAO and the web site is
http//www.icao.on.ca/
They first want you to do your bachelors and then job experience for 30 months. They have approved bachelors programs for each university which you can find on their website. The best university is probably Waterloo because of their Co-op program.
By the way I've done my A' Levels from The City School (Gulshan) and now am preparing to leave for Canada in about a months time to go and study in the University of Toronto. Feel free to email me whnever you want.
Faraz

Get experience from one of the bigfour, and they'd be ready to hail you here in Pakistan.

Hi,
Well there really is no way you can go directly for CA. But still it is pretty much the same time period as that in Pakistan of about 6 1/2 years (4 years college, 30 months job experience). The only difference is that instead of studying at an institute specifically for CA you study at a univ. Plus you get a bachelors degree (eg BBA, B.Comm) from a university of your choice. I consider it a good thing since at least in Pak. (I'm not sure about England), people usually study seperately for B.Comm along with CA. Also, you can explore other areas of study while at a univ. for instance, I'm going to be taking an Actuarial Science course in my first semester.
Well that's my opinion, the rest is obviously up to you.

though not in the same order. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Big four with relation to Pakistan means

- AF Ferguson & Co (PWC Pakistan)
- Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder (Ernst & Young Pakistan)
- Taseer Hadi Khalid & Co (KPMG Pakistan)
- M. Yousuf Adil Saleem & Co (Deloitte Pakistan)

There is CA in Canada (www.cica.ca)...

If you wish to do CA from Pakistan later on, its better that you do CA from Canada and not CPA... However, CPA too has its own worth and significance.
