I am agreed with Awais's answer.
It is always viable to take advice of a specific situation to a specified person, who is specialist in his field. A Patient go to the doctor and concern with doctor for his problems, although patient could take decision/medicine from his own, which may prove to be a cure, however it is always riskier to be self medicated since a doctor can better understand the situation/condition of a patient. Even after patient has taken medicine on instruction of his doctor, cure is not guaranteed if Allah does not want patient to be cured.
Likewise, Islam is very vast and we, not being specialized in it, can not take decisions of our own specially in critical matters, where a wrong decision can be resulted to be in hell(Jahanum) for good. In those matters where clarification is ambiguous, advice should be taken from Mufti, be it Fatwa or advice.
However, since now a days many ulemas are fake, who have no authentic information/knowledge, so Fatwa should be taken after ensuring the authenticity of Muftis because it is probable to take wrong decision based on unauthentic information.
Conclusively, in our life quite few issues are raised which require Fatwa since most of the complicated issues(of minor nature / of relating to our daily life) have already been concluded.
