Women in accountancy

Post: #16

Hi everybody

If we all are in agreement on the fact that our examination papers are designed to encourage rattafication, then why only blame poor girls for using the most obvious route? It is not their doing that the papers were made in that way.

Yes, i will agree with the point about women finding it difficult to travel to clients workplace in far off locations. Actually the reason behind it is again our so-called "moral and cultural values". Somwhere in the back of our warped, pathetic minds we assume that woman who travel a lot without any male accomplice (read mian, bhai aur abba ji) is a not a decent woman. Since this type of thinking has been embedded in our social psyche, we all (and that also includes the womenfolk) assume that it is difficult for women to travel alone to far-off places. Many women think of themselves as capable of travelling alone and even are ready to do it, but fear that if they do it on a regular basis, it might create some image issues for them.

Sorry, i don't buy into this shabby logic of putting the whole blame on the womenfolk. Islam puts an equal blame on the men who watch women with leery eyes. They are asked to lower their gaze whenever they see or talk to a woman (even if they are conservatively dressed, let alone liberally!). If our males do not have self-control, the main problem lies with them. The funniest thing is that our top designers include men who design these dresses in the first place. Height of hypocricy!!

Another most interesting thing i've personally observed is that i've seen these same ppl who love to ogle our women, when they go to europe and meet and talk to a much more 'liberally-dressed' gori woman, keep their eyes down or at something other than that female! Shows how much confidence our 'ghar ke sher', our 'stallions' have. lol

Yaaro.... whats our problem? Why do we keep playing this 'blame the dame' game? It started out with rattafication, then it became something about females lacking the will power, mental toughness, lack of IQ etc, then it came to something about women's lack of 'travelling abilities', then about their attire. Ufff, we sure hate our womenfolk, dont we?!! Itni ziada khaamiyan kyun talaash karte hein hum log apni khawateen mein? Why do we love to talk this much about the negative things? Could this be because of our own male insecurities?

We should leave the poor things alone, because if not, we arent being too different from the MMA ppl, who seem to have a major grudge against everything called female! . Instead we should give credit where its due and talk about their positive things rather than always look at the negative aspects. We have already made lives quite diffcult for them, lets not make them even worse!

Hi Guy!
I read ur posting with interest. U seem to be a cool and balanced guy. Can i make a suggestion at the risk of being eaten alive!
Why don't u change ur nick from Guybrush to Guyhandsome or better still Handsomeguy. This way the fundos(fundamentalists) at this site may give u a break. I read a lot of nasty stuff about u on this site, which i believe is neither justified nor professional.
I like people who don't spin truth for their own interests. I am a straight shooter myself. On ur suggestion, i will leave the ladies alone for now (although it will be tough! Now don't agree with anybody who says accountants have no sense of humor!!!!)
Take care and keep smiling!

hi pervaiz, its that thing that keeps you from being wanting to called a 'PAKI' that makes me feel proud of being one. (but u r a paki, I reckon, it does not need your endorsement).
as for quoting the reference, I quoted somewhere else that I'm not good at quoting references (I focus more on the knowledge than its reliable source) and as for the evidence,,,, my word is my evidence
nah, I didnt mean they were "walked over", I meant they get a 'red carpet' treatment (which is discrimination)
I wont answer your objection on 'bogus' - and its 'ingenuine' not 'disgenuine' (I think , again I cant quote you any dictionary, besides its no shame being wrong
I read the auditing paper too, the first question for 10 or 15 marks, and it wanted comments on the post Anderson collapse and how accountants were affected - its found in no book, unless in scattered form. then there were opinions required, so I cant see how u call it a 'rata' based paper. I've seen it and I think they should focus more on the syllabus.
I've read somewhere 'education is merely transportation from ignorance to miserable uncertainty'
linking to SMraza, I think one reason they dont join the field is cuz they are shy.
and u know it realy pisses me off to hear people talking about the treatment (indecent one) ladies get while on job, while they are referring to the miserable condition our ladies are in. its not the urban ladies that are being exploited, its the rural ladies that are in adverse condition, but nobody speaks for them, cuz they keep in their houses and you(the society) wont gain anything for siding with them. we should show our concern for those ladies rather than giving extra advantages to those having fun in the cities, and all that in the name of ladies being under developed (hell).
u know Guybrush there's another mentality going on,,, to let ladies (in one's house and outside) do whatever they want, so that you can atleast escape from the label of being - what u said??!!! 'warpred pathetic minds', and this has now led us to watch what they show on their dramas in geo and indus etc (and if u project it, u'll know its not long before we become ETC)....... so its right, to consider travelling ladies indecent, but then u cant just overlook what they can fall into - I mean they are definitely vulnerable (and today's guys are pathetic, I see my friends, each one has a girl friend or two, and they never stop on wanting more) so in such a desperate society, its definitely risky.
yeah, lets stop screening the ladies with greed in our eyes, and lets stop the ladies wear revealing apparels - I hope thats okay.
oh no, womenfolks are great and I want to respect them and respect I do, to the extent I can.
there again you are being subjective - say what MMA is doing wrong, and its wrong, but just making MMA a synonym for mischief is a little too harsh.
and none of it is meant to target somebody personally, infect I had fun reading posts against my views, so I hope you enjoy it too.

We were all guys who were trying to explain the problems faced by the women in our society (due to which they becharees dont join CA field)
why dont we ask ladies directly for the reason of not coming into our field. I think they are afraid of two things
1. CA field
2. CA Guys
We welcome all ladies in our profession, i dont know why dont they join our field ???? can any lady answer this ? Oooh bhai CA guys are not dangerous creatures

Hi fellows!
Does any body knows what is english equivalent of 'ratafication'
is? In my opinion (unfortunately i am highly opinionated) it is or should be called 'dumping of memory'. I read the advanced auditing paper again. Yes sir, there is nothing but that dumping of memory in it? Auditing is a very practical subject. The best way to test once knowledge in this field is to put out a few complex, multidimentional
questions that require application of knowledge as oppose to dumping of knowledge. I am sorry but that paper miserably failed in that respect. No wonder, Canadian C.A. institute does not recognize Pakistani and Indian C.A. even equivalent of B.Com. U have to do many subjects just to be treated at par with B.Com. On the contrary, ICAP gives equivalency to Canadain C.As.
And as far as somebody's words as evidence. May be Pakistani system of justice be working on that principle not int. system.
Not checking once's sources for reliability is almost a criminal offense in the field of auditing. So i will suggest not to develop that habit or if u have it get rid of it ASAP.
I am a bit amazed at non participation by both female and male members at this site. I find this site very useful and important for professional development. I wish more members should just say what they want. It helps people to organize their thoughts and express themselves a little better. Come on guys and gals start chating and stop brooding!

lol... lemme see
1) rattafication masters
2) mentally weak
3) lacking IQ
4) lack of travelling abilities
5) indecent dressers
6) corruptors of the morals of our pure, shareef-un-nafs, allah mian ki gaai men!!

now the latest negative trait discovered in our women
7) shyness

my dear friends... if a girl doesnt seem shy to us, then we ourselves label her a 'be-haya' larki!! Isnt this hypocricy or what...?

Yes, i agree with you Paki that the condition of women in our rural areas is not much better than cattle, but that doesnt mean that we immediately run off to the rural areas to try to improve their situation and forget our daily duties in life. What i mean is that we should atleast try to improve the condition of our womenfolk around and in the environment we live in, which is the least we can do. And we can only do that when we first try to understand their side of the story, instead of blaming them for everything bad on god's green earth.

quote

Yaar Paki... i have always liked your opinion on issues, but please don't mind me saying this that your above statement seems quite hypocritical to me. We all love to watch with our whole families indian and western movies, and programs like Temptation island and FTV etc on television and don't care about losing any moral values. But when we see only a fraction of similar sort of stuff from our own channels, we start crying and shouting our throats hoarse over the way our media is projecting 'be-hayaai and fahashi'.

Is it because our 'jazbaa-e-imaani' and 'ghairat' only rises when we see our OWN damsels flaunting around provocatively and don't mind a bit when we see other's (read gori/sarhad-paar ki) womeonfolk doing much much more? If we are so concerened about all this, then why don't we put a lid on these, more provocative things first, then go out for the less provocative stuff later.

Lol... yaar SMR, no wonder women refuse to come in a field where male chauvanism lies so deeply entrenched in each of our minds!! The funniest thing is that all of us don't mean anything bad towards them, but we don't even realize how patronizing we get when we talk about them.

My friends, all this has to change if things have to improve for our womenfolk, ie. firstly our traditional mindsets. And why the hell do we see this situation as something between 'US and THEM' in the first place? like we are talking about some other species or aliens, indians or israelies!!

Btw... SMRaza has made another addition to the negative trait count!

8) Darpok

I would again repeat that please... lets move on from these girl-bashing thoughts. Lets not think of them as anything superior or inferior to us, just our equal. The day we start to think of them as equal, most of the problems will be solved.

They have C.A in Canada too?... Or is it C.P.A ?

And about the B.Com thing, when B.Com and BBA used to be of two years in Pakistan, every student of the mentioned qualifications, who went to USA or UK, 'had' to complete an addition course to become equivalent to USA/UK's bachelors.

But now as almost all bachelors are of 4 years in Pakistan, students who wish to go abroad will be considered equivalent to the respective country's bachelors program and 'will not' have to attend any additional courses.

Hi Sumaan!
Yes Canada has C.A. instead of CPA. Like uniform CPA exam, Canada has a Uniform Final Exam(UFE). Because Canada is a member of common wealth and the Queen is still the head of state in Canada. Canadian C.As have equavilancy with U.K. CAs.
I don't know ur background or what u r doing at present, but if u r interested in some infomration on CA or CPA, i would be happy to provide it for u.

you think anybody's gonna believe you with your k9s on?
Pervaiz, ratafication is the urdu version of an english word 'rote' - (to rote learn).
and I hope you dont expect me to remember the magzine name, the article name, the issue date etc of everything I read to quoto to you??? infect most people wont share what they know, just because they dont know the source. and as far as getting rid of this habit is concerned, I overcome it through consultation (which I think is more productive and less time consuming).
and you are right to say, 'this place is great'.
I said 'shy' in response to the girls responses 'na baba na' when asked to join CA.
as far as trying to improve the condition of our women around us is concerned, I believe enough has been done about it, and now its the ladies' turn to show some responsibility and use this freedom with a self-discipline.
first of all I dont watch 'those' programs with my family or alone and 2nd, if anybody else does it, thats mean, and 3rd 'beyhayai and fahashi' is an act, no matter who's doing it, whether our media or the int'l one, so I'm gonna prefer to stamp out both of these scourges, then to appreciate the local media following this vulgarity aswell, just cause the outsiders are doing it.
and the reason why we need to control the less provocative source is, cause it is under our control.
honestly speaking, its not a question of superior or inferior, its a matter of right or wrong. and 2nd, you want them to be equal, tell you what!!, the ladies are the one who are gonna oppose it, cause they wont like the idea of giving up all those informal previliges (I smell a spelling mistake )
and they are not 'darpok', u bet, they are not.
and pls. dont use facts to twist other facts - guybrush. just cause the nature of the topic is such that you have to count the weaknesses of our females, otherwise their qualities definitely out number their weakesses, the problem is, u aint counting them. so dont make us look like enemies of ladies - but I hate to remain shut up

Because these days, these things would become an all out board war instead of a proper discussion between calm-headed individuals, and secondly, a highly opinionated member called guybrush tries to stay quiet and watch the proceedings from the sidelines instead of adding his two cents to each and every topic.

SMR.. dont rue the fact that we dont have the same ppl as before... ppl come and go... some stay longer in this place, some for shorter period... most are good, some are bad.

Kind of like life, isnt it?
