Hi Sumaan
I got a nice secretary who knows very well where to put all these things.... .... your comments are irrelevant in this regard and try to admit your mistakes with open heart....

Please refer to the rules on limiting class 1 NIC and then read the post of sajjad dar again....

Hope you will understand it now... and this is my final post on this subject...dont have time to go through with people like yourself.

Thanks

zubair

Hi Mr.Zubair...

Actually you could've asked your secretary to read properly coz I only mentioned 'TAX' and not NIC. Ask your 'nice secretary' to read it again

"Huh?!... Whats wrong with the 40% income tax rate??... That's 100% correct... I think you might be thinking about previous year figures... Because the 'limits or ranges of income' on which income tax is charged changes from year to year."

That was ONLY TAX that I was talking about and not NIC.

I recommend your secretary to check your typos as well

"and this is my final post on this subject...dont have time to go through with people like yourself."

Shouldn't it be... ""and this is my final post on this subject...dont have time to go through with people like YOU.""

Hi Paki

The short answer to your question is Yes. i firmly believe this will happen and very soon.

You have to understand the business enviornement in UK and the whole European Union............. Reporting harmony will not come unless standards are unified....... The plan is to have companies not on national levels but European levels. So i believe its safe to assume that unified standards will be implemented in 2005-06.

Thanks
zubi

4) Over £29,900 Higher rate Tax you have to pay 40% income tax and 10% NIC (total 50%).

Surprised nobody challanged it, its wrong.

Please read your study manuals carefully before advising people on tax matters, it could land you in difficulty somewhere in your professional life.

I have completed business taxation and personnel taxation in my AAT course. I recently started ACCA course and will appear paper 1.3, 2.1 and 2.2 in June 2004. As for as hunt is concern, I don’t have gun for hunting.

If i am not mistaken, EU requires all companies based in its member countries to adopt IAS and IFRS by 2005? Isn't that so?

Zubair, i presume that you reside in one of the EU countries. What is the level of awareness among the companies regarding this development and how are they coping with this huge change? What is going to be the impact of this change on their local and global operations? Can you comment on this a bit?

Hi Guybrush

Your information is correct... change is planned for 2005 (2006 we will start to see the accounts)

all the accountancy institutes are rolling out professionals with necessary skills to adapt to this change. Few of the existing accountants (babas) are, however, not very well prepared....

I think its going to be the most difficult transitional phase in the profession.... having said that auditors here in UK are quick to attend courses and prepare for the change......

One big problem here is the monitoring units of ICEAW and ACCA.... they visit practices, look at the audit files... if they find evidence that accouting and auditing standards have not been properly complied with,...... they are quick to take the auditing license away or other desciplinary procedings ensue..... I believe you can guess, we have no option but to rush to courses and update ourselves....

It will have a huge impact on businesses across european union... we will see more globalistion..... this coupled with the advancements in technology (mainly fibre optics and dedicated satellite terminals) a greater number of accoutancy and auditing practices will relocate their frontend and backend operations to coutries like inida and pakistan to take advantage of labour efficiency...... now these are my views only,,, you are welcomed to comment and let me have your own judgements...

finaly note Recently Bangladesh allowed the implementation of Voice over internet protocol (VoIP). Reports are that the decision was taken by the cabinet despite severe opposition from the national carrier.... I think its a big step forward.... we urgently need the same to be done in Pakistan.... Such an implementation will be the backbone of future accountacny market in Pakistan.

Thanks
zubair

Hey Zubair,
why do u take it as problem, as in my opinion these kind of practices are necessary to have check and balance on auditors of any country, this will lead to a best corporate culture,
dont u think so ?????

AOA,
Well I agree SMR, such practices are quite direly needed in countries like ours.....A QCR programe is in place with ICAP, but i doubt anybody's practicing liscence has ever been on stake due to it....

Well in the scenario indicated by Zubair, I think people with application knowledge of IFRS would be in demand throughout EU, but language problems may still restrict accountants of this country to UK.

VoIP, well that seems to be a good suggestion for soliciting accountancy work.....but i think the Think Tanks of our country would need a push before they start responding to such technological advancements & compatability.....we do believe in being led rather than taking the lead & talk of emulating bangladesh might not be attractive to the ones in the arenas of Power, although Dr. Atta-Ur-Rehman seems to be a guy with some vision.....

Anyhow, what strategy should one go about in obtaining accountancy work from the EU, UK in particular....?

Ed.

Hi

Monitoring visits are in place in many countries of the world.... These visits didnot stop scandels like polypek, worldcom, enron etc. If the visits dont stop these practices then they are nothing but a burden on practioners.

Professional negligence claims up and down the country (UK) are increasing faster then ever. Monitoring visits didnt help here either.

Thanks
zubair
