IMA (USA) is one of the founding member of IFAC. IMA (USA) was a full member of IFAC but in 2008 IMA didn't renew its membership with IFAC as a protest because IFAC closed management accounting section.

But Then why thousands of members considering CMA. In most cases it is seen that Employers are now demanding for CMA. Can u provide us any Link, or considerable evidence about un-recognization of CMA. If only CPA is recognized designation than it means CFA is also not valid ?

Mr.Tariq Sohail, U being a CMA. Can U please post any Link/Infos about recognization and Accredit-ion of CMA(Authenticity of CMA).

Thanks in Advance.

Yasir,

Sorry for the late reply because I was out of town.

IMA (USA) is an independent body in USA which is founded in 1919. It is not attached with any state accounting board in USA.

IMA is considered to be the 2nd most important designation in USA after CPA due to its exposure and market demand. CPA is more in demand in USA due to public accounting rights.

If you want to check market worth of CMA then you can view job sites and you will get answer to your question. As far as I know CMA (IMA) considered to be the most demanded designation in Middle East from all management accounting bodies (CIMA, ICMAP, ICWAI) providing CMA in market.

I hope this will clear your concerns.

Regards.

Yasir,

I don't have update relation status between IMA & IFAC but IMA still participating in more or less all activities of IFAC related to management accounting. Plus IMA is pretty actively participating on IFAC net.

http//www.ifacnet.com/participants

I received following information from IMA almost year back. I am pasting information as it is;

"IMA is committed to serving our international markets and global members in more than 120 countries. Following a detailed due process, based on our strategic interests and our global member needs, IMA has decided not to renew its membership with the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) following the current membership year ending December 31, 2008.

IMA has made this decision considering that IFAC’s programs and initiatives are not in alignment with those of IMA; specifically in advancing the management accounting profession. Tangible benefits to our members were not deemed commensurate with dues expenditures. IMA will re-allocate IFAC membership dues to develop tangible products and services to international members, in the areas of certification, specialized certificates, professional development, conferences and networking.

IMA will continue to partner with international bodies affiliated with IFAC. We will provide input to IFAC as a non-member, through comment letter submissions, on issues specifically related to management accounting for the international markets. Of course, we would consider re-engagement with IFAC, based on IMA’s future initiatives."

Salam Tariqsohail,
Brother I have few questions about CMA.
1)ICMAP website show 10 paper exemption for CMA(IMA) for a long time. Now CMA is of 2 papers rather than 4 parts as earlier. Please tell me whether ICMAP will still give 10 exemptions to new 2 part qualified CMA?
2)Does CMA accept 2 years Bcom from Punjab University?
3)how to prove experience to IMA?Should anybody such as CMA,ACMA,CA etc sign certificates?
4)Does Icmap award exemption to those who have just passed CMA exams or to those who have fulfilled experience and degree requirements also?

W. Salam,

Please check my reply;

1) ICMAP website still showing 10 paper exemption for CMA (IMA) which means yes, but you need to reconfirm with ICMAP. I don't think there will be any change but confirmation is always good.

2) 2 Year B.com from PU is acceptable for IMA.

3) Regarding experience...industry experience with certain job responsibilities (mentioned on IMA website) is acceptable for IMA but that experience should have authentication.

4) I am not sure...better you check this with ICMAP.

Regards,
Sohail

Thanks for your reply.
Please answer the following.
If ultimate aim is to be a member of ICMAP and one other CMA body and work in Pakistan or middle east.Which route is better.
1)first Bcom and CMA(IMA) then remaining ICMAP papers
2)direct ICMAP after Fsc(intermediate) and then CMA(IMA).(total of about 29 papers and 4 courses).
3)CIMA(uk) after Fsc and then Remaining 3 papers and COMPREHENSIVE exam of Icmap.(total 19 papers)

Basically it's your choice. You need to make your own analysis. Every route is easy as well as difficult.
No professional qualification will be away from you if you put your efforts and no professional qualification will come easily to you without putting your effort.

Just FYI...please don't take CMA (IMA) easy with this reduction of exam papers because now passing rate drop from 50% (4 Papers) to 33% (2 Papers), which means now you have to apply more effort to pass CMA (IMA). Moreover 2 papers doesn't mean two subjects only. These 2 papers covering different subjects and IMA also assuming that candidates already having knowledge of general accounting, economics, statistics to name few so examiner can test these without mentioning in syllabus.

Sohail

Salam. I have completed A-levels from Karachi, Pakistan. Now I need your expert advice on this

1.What should I go for? Which is better (for securing a good job) if I stay in Pakistan or if I go abroad to UK or USA? Either a bachelors degree or a certification like CMA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA?
2. Please advise me in what sequence should I plan my career.
3. Is it important to pursue bachelors degree too after completing certification courses?

Reply soon. Thank you.
