SECP Vs. Chartered Accountants.

Hi CBP!
Do u really believe that enacting new laws is the solution to our problems? How about effective enforcement of existing laws? Would u kindly let us know what provisions of Sarbanes-Oxley when adopted for Pakistan will be useful in our enviornment? Remember we have a situation where law enforement is almost completely non existing. Don't u think we need to develop independent judiciary, strong administration and a sense of civic duty before adding volumes of laws?

You are right but there has to be a beginning. This nation has had enough of generalised comments. People need to be accountable for their actions. IF SECP is sleeping then it should wake up or else..<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

agreed with CBPian, that people must be accountable for their actions,
but we must tell SECP that PEOPLE doenst mean the Chartered Accountants only, it also includes the management of the company <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

I really didn't get you. R u saying Govt. is making generalized comments or SECP making these comments. I thought Govt. and its agencies work on solid legal foundations not on comments. As far as SECP awakening! Actually people r complaining that they are too active, and that is what got this thread started (can see raza's first posting). So i am a bit confused.

Hi Raza!
You may be a senior member, but you don't have those green stars under ur name as yet. Yes, Summaan got them (Did anybody notice! Congratulations Summaan. You are being treated "green carpetedly" as Paki would put it) We have to add a bit of spice in our arguments once in a while. Otherwise, the board becomes too boring!

actually i was not known about these green stars (when pervez told me then i was thinking about those green star which is sometime seen on the signboards) anyways, i asked my friend about this, he told me about the green stars and the moderator,
