<br />well a long topic ... we must all remember that the first person in the world that accepted islam was HAZRAT KHADIJA(R.A) and after her HAZRAT ABU BAKAR( RA) accepted islam......this is a very important point that we usually dont see......its a woman and not a man who took the lead in accepting islam.......
well islam has given respect to the women there r a lot of hadiths relating to mother, sister, wife and daughters......
in islam its obligatory(fard/farz) on a man and a woman to gain knowledge......
in islam its the duty of a men to earn and for the woman its upon her to work or not......if she decided to work she has to take the permission of her husbadand be fully coverd in the workplace......by not allowing women to work its not in islam but in our culture........ like HAZRAT HIFZA(RA)went to a battle field with the HOLY PROPHET(PBUM)and took care of the wounded......(its like the work of a female doctor or a nurse nowadays)
well a women can work as long as she is not involved in any unislamic practices like working for a bank(interest is involved),tobacco or wine companies, modelling (expossing body)for the rest she can work......

So we can conculde that no gender is superior to the other and both are equally respectable.
