The thing that you said about actuarial education from a university.... the point is... u cant call ur self an actuary unless you are a member of the SOA or IOA or CAS... even though you have an actuarial science degree. You have to pass the exams to practice as an actuary... Its similar like CA, i.e. one studies almost all subjects in M.Com, but he wont be a CA, unless he/she is member of the ICAP, and for that you have to pass their papers.

I agree with AZKS that having only the relevant accademic degree does not qualified you as an Actuary. The fact is you need to clear the relevent exams /modules from the Institute/ Society of Actuaries. Of course, you could get exemptions (upto 9 for IOA, if you have a First Class BSc. in Actuarial Science from an authorised university) but you can't get 100% exemptions from any accademia degree. You need to have a minimum amount of relevent work experience too for some charters in Actuarial Profession, e.g. FIA.
