Hello i am a final year student in accounting, i am looking to go into ACCA when i complete my degree. I have a dissertation to do in my final year. Prior to me writing this message, i had some very original ideas about what i wanted to do, however means of getting primary information data as secondary date proved troublesome.
I have been doing research into auditing. A very intresting subject area, what with Auditor Independence and Corporate goverance being controversial etc.
I have chosen to do my dissertation in this area, can anyone give me a guiding hand as to what would be a good current issue to debate about. I have though about independence, however the area is very broad, i have to narrow it down....
I also reside in the UK. So a hot area here in auditing would be a good topic...
Regards
Donza

Hi Donza

As you have already mentioned, corporate governance and auditing are hottest areas right now after the events of enron, worldcall, ahold, andersen etc. I think that this should be a good area if you are looking for a dissertion with a general theme. However, if u are looking into some specific area, then i would recommend dividend and its tax implications. This is a topic which always has multiple, often polarized opinions, atleaset here in Pakistan. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

I would also recommend that u consult your teachers, or better still, meet a senior chartered accountant working in an audit firm. They will be the ideal ppl to guide u on what issues are relevant in UK nowadays.

its nice to have original ideas, but you must also consider if that will help you come up with a good dissertation in your FINAL YEAR u say. so its necessary to chose a topic that balances in a way that you can realy prepare it well enough and not lose your originality.
guybrush's given you a very useful tip, consult some professionals.

just to add to your topic list, how about ,, 'rotation of auditors and effect on independence' mind it there are disadvantages to rotation aswell, if u might wanna concentrate on that.

good luck
