Music is not strickly prohibeted but the instruments are to qoute an event
" when our holy prophet(PBUH) first arrived in Yasrab (MADINA), the girls of Madina were singing the songs of joy using TABLA. The Prophet didnt stop from doing so."
from the above it is clear that music is not prohibeted but that is which compell a person to do some thing wrong ie sin.

God bliss u

hello rabia! A.O.A, well i think most of us have very limited knowledge but up to the extent HUMAIRA and IBRISHAH mentioned they r absolutely right. but personally HAZRAT MUHAMMAD (S.A.W) disliked music itself and there is hadees like that" jo log gana bajana suntay hain qayamat k din un k kanoo main seesa (glass) pighla k dala jaye ga"

which clearly indicates that music is condemned in islam.
