if you have an accounting background, then yes you can study it by yourself and clear the exams if you put in sufficient efforts... Thats only valid for 1.1 and 1.2, because 1.3 (Managing People) doesn't require any accounting background... So basically 1.3 relies more on your english writing skills and memory.
