Hi,

I have been accepted at London School of Economics (LSE) for BSc Accounting and Finance. And I also hold acceptance at University of Toronto (St George Rotman) for BCom Accounting. My ultimate goal is to become a Chartered Accountant.

If I choose LSE, then I shall aim for CA from UK (ICAEW body). On the other hand, if I choose Uni of Toronto then I can still become a CA from Canada Ontario (CICA body). Moreover I can also apply for permanent residence and settle in Toronto.

I really cannot decide between the two...

Kindly offer me valuable advice in regard to this delimma. It shall be highly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Congratulations on your university offers.

My advice would be to go for LSE. I believe it has much wider brand name and when applying for jobs in few years time you will realise that for most competitive jobs university name (and alumni relations) would matter a lot. I believe LSE is a lot bigger name than University of Toronto.

I am a graduate of LSE (not Accounting and Finance) and I know a number of friends who did Accounting and Finance and managed to get jobs in Big 4 in London.

I think your concerns about settlement can have a low priority over the name of the institution (unless you have family reasons to go Canada). If you get a job with, say Big 4, they would most likely sponsor for your work permits etc and if you perform well and there is still demand for your skills in the economy, you should be able to get settlement in the UK (after spending requisite years, currently 5, in the UK on work permit).

Good luck!
