Babar Awan appeared as advocate on behalf of a private tour operator in the Supreme Court in connection with Haj quota petitions. Babar Awan is a Senator. As a layman I understand that though a foolish one but each Advocate under the law takes Oath while taking Registration that he/she will not undertake any other office of profit namely would not join any other service, business, profession while holding Licence as an Advocate. Babar Awan is not alone there are hundreds who are registered advocates but are senators, ministers, MNAs etc. The point is whether a rule is a foolish one or not where is the sanctity of the rule and where is strict compliance and restoration of dignity of law which the advocates like Aitzaz Ahsan and Ali Ahmed Kurd are crying. By the way our today’s biggest champion of rule of law and a real respectable Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan I remember hold his professional licence also received “salary/income” as the then Defence Minister.
