State Bank validates old NICs for banking

KARACHI (March 11 2004): The State Bank has decided to facilitate bank clients by accepting photo copy of the old National Identity Card along with another document showing that the client has applied for new NIC.

The State Bank on Wednesday issued a circular for clarification of validity of old NIC for banking business.

“In order to facilitate the clients or customers of banks it has been decided that in cases where the depositors or borrowers have not yet obtained Computerised NIC for opening of accounts or extension of financing, the banks may obtain attested copies of old NIC and receipt of Nadra along with an undertaking in writing that a copy of CNIC would be submitted immediately on receipt,” said the circular.
