Sales tax refund section to stay open on holidays

KARACHI (March 21 2004): The refund section of the Collectorate of Sales Tax (Enforcement) will remain open on Sundays and on public holidays including March 23 to expeditiously dispose of pending refund claims.

The step has been taken on requests from textile associations regarding disposal of pending refund claims.

The Collector Enforcement has also instructed the refund section staff to process at least 75 refund claims daily. Any group processing less than 75 claims would be called for explanation about its efficiency.

The 'age profile' of the claims should be kept in view and the older claims should be processed first, it was further instructed.

Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) and Pakistan Art Silk and Rayon Mills Association (PSARMA) have welcomed the decision and said that it would help in disposing of pending claims.

Khalid Amin, Chairman (PSARMA) held a meeting with Khawaja Tanveer, Collector Enforcement on Saturday and discussed with him problems faced by the exporters especially with regard to delay in sales tax refund.

The Chairman Prgmea Sales Tax Sub Committee, Abdul Wahid Bandukda, has thanked the Collector for facilitating exporters for getting sales tax refund on time.
