SBP extends deadline for CNIC submission requirement for account holders

KARACHI (January 01 2009): The State Bank of Pakistan has extended the date for the submission of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) to June 30, 2009. This decision was taken after the representation received from the banks, indicating difficulties in meeting the extended deadline of December 31, 2008.

Despite the banks and DFIs' instructions several account holders have not submitted their CNIC. Therefore, it has been decided to extend the date until June 30, 2009. However, the SBP has advised banks and DFIs to continue aggressive public campaign through print / electronic media for creating public awareness on the requirement of CNIC for banking purposes, besides contacting the accountholders individually.

Banks/DFIs have also been advised to provide information on progress made on the subject on fortnightly basis, within seven days of the close of each fortnight. All other instructions on the subject shall, however, remain unchanged.
