FBR Instructs PTA and Telecos to Block 500,000+ Mobile SIMs of Tax Non-filers

Authority says decision taken after repeated failed attempts to get them to file returns

A local news channel reported that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday ordered PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) and telecom carriers to block 506,671 SIM cards belonging to tax non-filers.

A notice issued to one of the non-filers said, “You were issued notice under Section 114B to file return, non-compliance results in disconnection of electricity, gas and mobile connections. Please file return immediately,”.

The SIM cards of tax evaders “will remain blocked until restored by the FBR or the Inland Revenue Commissioner having jurisdiction over them,” the FBR stated.

FBR earlier sent final notices to non-filers blocking their mobile SIM cards and phones.

One of the notices handed out to non-filers stated, “You were issued a notice under Section 114B to file a return; noncompliance results in the disconnection of electricity, gas, and mobile connections.” Please file your return right away,” it said.

FBR has also planned to disconnect tax non-filers’ electricity and gas connections.
