If they are not .. then why do they get more high-paying jobs than accountants? What are their plus points?

In my opinion, there is no substitute for 4 years of the 'ragraa' of articleship.... but still MBAs are preferred. An MBA in finance who spends much less time doing MBA... and that too without any work experience (except for a few weeks of internship) is taken as an equal, and in some cases preferred over a CA for job positions?

Why?

well i think it would be difficult to compare CA with MBA to a great extent. the main difference between these two is, that every business have some business functions( marketing, human resources, production, distribution, finance etc.). An MBA studies all these functions in good depth which broadens their vision and thus enable them to make good business decisons by considering many aspects of business. on the other hand CA's mainly studies Accounting and finance. they dont have much knowledge of the other businees functions which gives MBAs a slight edge. But no doubt when it comes to the field of Accounting and finance CAs are undisputedly the "Cheatay" of this field.

I think that the edge they get is because of their Presentation and Marketing skills. Usually when it comes to presentation , CA tends to rely on figures/numbers (which many others think as Boring), translate the same into some graphs, charts, add some animations plus a little style and suddenly they become interested. There is no doubt that all the ragraa adds experience into us. Plus in case of accounts and finance, we are masters since we know the depth of financial statements.
Additionally, I believe that past CA wanted to limit their role in accounts only. They were a different breed (no offence)and the times were then was of SELLERS. The times have changed now, and the market is of BUYERS and to attract the buyers, we have to change our image from pure accounts persons to a Business Partner.

The mere statement that an MBA's better than Qualified Accountants is an expression of complete childness. MBA'S are better than CA'S or VISVERSA sounds very immature. At the end of the day its the command which one holds in ones area of expertise. Has anyone ever heard saying Barristers are better than LLB's.Never....i suppose! What counts is ones own interest, hardwork and peserverance. Lets stop discussing all this stuff and mature ourselves as successful professionals be it MBA or CA. God Speed!

Dear Fizz

First of all, by starting this discussion, i did not mean to say that some qualification-holders are better than the other. What i meant was to discuss why are MBAs are preferred over CAs when both apply for a top-position job.

Secondly, i think that its better to know the strong and weak points of my competitors before i go into a match. If you don't know your opponent, then how do you expect to perform well and differently than your opponent. By the way, i do count MBAs as the opposing party!! If you don't think of them as opponents to your future well-being, just wait till your next job intreview, where you manage to outscore all the superb CAs applying alongside you, but then on the last hurdle, an MBA with a degree from an unknown university takes the job just because he is a MIGHTY MBA ... armed with all the tools of the trade, and the poor number-crunching CA gets the boot.

Thirdly, if you think that this discussion is childish and immature, then you don't have to participate in it. Remember, we live in a democracy, even if it is a bit flawed... but democracy it is! Please let us take out our pent-up anger in whatever peaceful manner we like.

P.S. Barristers always get the job in comparison with our desi LLBs, that is, if they both apply for the same job position... its all in the image, my dear...!

I think CA's have an edge over MBA's in Pakistani Markets, the reason for it being that our employers still have the 'sait saab' sort of an attitude and therefore MBA's usually have a limited say in decision making and making strategies. Therefore, MBA's dont have a great role to play in their respective fields. Whereas accounting and finance is a highly technical field and sait saab cant usually argue with the CA's in decision making and all the sait saab would care abt is CA's saving them 'taxes' Wink

I think 30000 is a good salary for mba. i also did mba with 3.5 gpa and i am also a student of module c. frankly doing mba is far easier than passing one module of ca.

No Doubt! A 'qualified chartered accountant' is a father of all accountants, if he/she has sufficient appropriate knowledge of accountancy & audit etc.

Simple, MBAs are far behind w.r.t. to accounting & finance knowledge.

You should also use mother with father, or need to remove she from next sentance...
