Big firms definitley count much, however, it never means you have lost very much if you articled from somewhere else. Basic thing is learning and that depends much on the person who is getting training more than the place where you are.

For those who are interested in their own practice small firm is a better idea.

yes me to agree that its ur firm(specialy if u r not qulaified ca) decides ur future, and then its come upto ur experience+expousure.

anyhow, but getting into these(big4) firms , without any good ref. is not easy(however, there r many cases those r without any such ref. but it was thier luck that at that time no one had applied through ref. or few applied and there was VACANCY FOR NON. REF. D

Qualification, good firm, personal abilities and luck, all these factors does matters...but one thing is for sure and it is ur qualification that is the most important factor...I am in a Big4, but still suggests to other members that ur world doesnot ends without Big4...

Noman gettin in all top3 without reference is something comendable, so congrats.

Maani the factors affecting you career must be in following order.

1- Qualification
2- Personal abilities
3- Good firm

And the simple postulate about luck is that it favors the brave. The mould of man's fortune is in his own hands. So I don't put that in this list.

Now we can see that the firm counts least.

schuaeb.
partially i disagree with u, anyhow to some extend ur argument about 'luck' is valid, but not as a whole.

i give u a real example, one of my knowing ACA trained from AFF and working for one of the pak. biggest Co. on a good senior post.

just after doing CA he got an accident and lost his one eye, now what if he lost both.
this should make u think that there is your destiny which finally decides about u, yes one must try his best.

if it is not one's luck, then why many hard working students not get addmission UET.

if it is not one's luck, then why many hard working students cant admission in UET,/or in medical even they score more then 85,90% just bcoz of that stupid entrance test.
y a hard working student cant get addmission in unniversities like GIKI,LUMS, even he got addmision there...just bcoz he/she cant afford it...
so dear there are many reason other then ur hardwork, which comes out as ur luck and makes ur way as in ur destiny.
This is what i hav seen in this world.and this is as per my view...

Naveed, the Big4 usually looks for the brilliant ones (academic record) or for the Pawa, it does not matters whether you are a Masters degree holder or an Intermediate...

Capricon, I too partially agree with what you said. But that is not the way how one should precieve luck. You through a dice and a number between 1 and 6 is a must. Now whatever you name that as just a chance, luck or destiny.

However, I have to agree that crossing the bounds of one's destiny is not possible, but while remaining within that a you are the maker of your destiny.
