"Pracs"; I'm very thanful to you for this help. I'm a poor student who can't bear expenses of visiting Lahore again and again for taking information about CA. Well, I've visited Lahore and have a lot of information but still there are some general kind of problems which I'm facing right now at this time before deciding that whether I should go for CA or ICMA and if CA then where? PAC (Which is only in Lahore and Peshawar) or SKANS (Which has a branch in my city also).

As you have said that good academic background and the attempts to pass CA Inter are kept in view before entering the contracts of articles training by the Chartered Accountants' firms. I would like to put a question here that whether a CA Inter passing student who have qualified CA Inter in more than 1 or 2 attempts would be given even merely an opportunity to do articleship in some Chartered Accountancy firm or he or she would not be able to secure even articleship?

If you have some information about PAC; I also would like to know that whether PAC arranges articleship for all of it's CA Inter passing students or every student whether he or she has earned the certification from PAC, SKANS or whatsoever it is; would be required to gain such opportunity on self-try-basis?

I've secured first division in BCom; and have average mind and intelligence; but have a lot of courage; self determination; confidence and support by my parents and the supporter who is supporting me to do CA or ICMA. I want to ask in your opinion that wheter a student like me can do CA or there are some inherent qualities required to do CA which must be present in that person going to do CA?

Dear Adeel,

I myself am a person of average intelligence,.. Let me share with you a little story,.. I passed my B.com in first divison,.. no positions in the Univ,, I think i was no.5 in my college. I had no clue about CA.. I had no one in my family and friends to advice on,.. I had a neigbour (who was a CA inter and serving articles) who I went to get advice from... he asked what my marks were in Matric and FSc. after which he gave me brotherly advice to drop the idea and go for an MBA,.. I asked him why ?,, his answer was as a friend he would be honest with me and thought I did not have the material to go for it,, too much hard work in terms of studies and work... That was the point in time I took it up as a challenge. I thought if he can do it why can't I ? To make a long story short I gave every thing for the goal... Passed My CA foundation in first attempts,.. secured an article with a Big 4.. qualified within my articles both CA and ACCA... My neighbour is still a CA inter and has discontinued any further attempts to qualify for the CA designation !

If you 'have a lot of courage; self determination; confidence and support by my parents '... it is more than enough to get to your goal.

I would also like to quote one of my teachers in CA Foundation, Mr. Ashfaque Ahmed (may Allah bestow him with Paradise) who said to us the first day

'Gentlemen consider yourself to have joined the army, for the next six years tell your parents to consider having gone to the army,.. you have only one mission to qualify CA within your articles,.. do not consider yourself available for social events,.. even attending weddings of your cousins and brothers and sisters,.. you may only attend your wedding if it falls during this time! Give your level best because I believe every one in this room has the ability to pass these exams, thousands have done so in the past and thousands will do it after you'

Ofcourse it was'nt as bad as he told us.. but we did give in our complete committment... and the resolve to pass within articles, the seriousness and the will to do it,, to always think that passing the exam was the most important thing in life, period. We enjoyed ourselves had fun too,, the long hours at work and the longer hours at studying. But believe you me, even after slaving at work for 10-12 hours I found the strength to study another 3-4 hours.. and that was amazing.

About the Institute, I think if SKANS has a branch in your city better join them.. since going to an institute in Lahore may increase the expenses and you will be loosing the comfort of your home. Since your parents support you and are ready to invest 6 years I think looking at the big picture going for CA instead of ACMA would be recommendable.

As far as audit firms are concerned,.. the Big 4 may concentrate more on first attempt passes, but there are hundred of other firms in Just Lahore.. so you will find a firm that gives you a contract. Why do you think of not doing it in the first attempt?? that's the wrong footing to start on.

No institute will 'arrange a contract for you'... however you may at times get recommendations from some of you teachers, who are CA themselves. Getting into CA is almost like joining a faternity you will come across many opportunities some guided by your teachers, your seniors, your batch mates and even your juniors. So don't worry about that at this stage.

Hope this answers your querry,.. feel free to put as many questions as you fee like, we at this forum as your seniors are here for you, to help out in any way.

Best of luck.
