New sales tax refund rules under preparation

KARACHI (December 12 2003): New Sales Tax refund rules are under preparation and would be presented soon to the FPCCI and the concerned ministry for final approval.

Member sales tax Shahid Ahmed stated this while having a meeting with a delegation of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA).

He said that new sales tax refund rules were under preparation and would be announced soon, having the objective to provide maximum relief to the exporters.

The delegation, led by Chairman, PHMA Sales Tax Committee, Saleem Parekh, took up all the pending issues pertaining to refund rules, section 73, quality of audit, DTRE problems, enlisting and delisting of suspected units and other related problems in the meeting.

The member sales tax, along with collector enforcement Khwaja Tanveer Ahmad and additional collector Nasir Butt, assured the delegation that his department was determined to resolve the genuine problems of the trade and industry on priority basis.

He also asked PHMA sales tax committee to give its reservations on DTRE matter so as to make it workable for the exporters and accepted the invitation from the PHMA to visit the association office during his next visit to the city.

After the meeting, the chairman, PHMA, Sales Tax Committee termed the outcome of the meeting was very positive and said that it was a part of the efforts of PHMA towards promotion of the tax friendly culture in the country.

He said that for deduction of sale tax, deferred payments, software related problems, etc the sale tax team had invited PHMA to visit Lahore in the next few days to resolve these issues there in the presence of other concerned officials and authorities.

He thanked the member, sales tax and the collectors for giving PHMA delegation time, special attention and assurance to resolve their problems.

Noor Mohammad Mewawala and Arshad Shehzad of PHMA also attended the meeting.
