Seized vehicles to be auctioned with CBR Council's consent

ISLAMABAD (April 06 2005): CBR 'Board-in-Council' has decided to share the powers of customs department for disposal of confiscated vehicles. At present, customs department is solely empowered to dispose of confiscated vehicles. However, it has been decided that the consent of 'Board-in-Council' should be taken by Member Customs prior to auction/disposal of seized vehicles. These include tampered, non-duty paid and smuggled vehicles.

Official sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday that the Board-in-Council would take up the issue of disposal of these cars in its next meeting on April 6.

The Board-in-Council will also discuss the issue of auction of the vehicles of KIA Motors. These vehicles were imported at the time of 'yellow cab' scheme, but could not be auctioned due to non-availability of chassis numbers of the CKD kits. Now the CBR has received NOCs from their authorised representative and Sindh government. These vehicles will be auctioned in about a month.

The Council will also take up the issue of unified reward rules for customs, sales tax and income tax officials, officials added.
